Rustic and relaxing

Review of Penguin Resort
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 1, 2017via mobile
We stayed here for a week and really enjoyed it. The owners Irene and Ken are wonderful people, from the time we arrived we were treated like family. We stayed in a 1 bdrm cabin it was rustic but it had everything you could possibly need in a cabin. It is close to both westhawk lake and falcon lake and there are great hiking trails in the area. The beach is a stone's throw away from the cabins so it is very convenient especially to families with small kids. I would highly recommend staying here. I have already recommended to a.couple people. They have short term and longer term stays depending on what cabins are available. I'm not sure when my vacation will be next summer but if a cabin us available this is where you will find us.
Thanks Irene for making us feel like family. We loved our stay.

We stayed for a week in July 2017. Cozy 1 bdrm cabin was dated but adequate. Ken and Irene were fantastic! Very welcoming and helpful. Location is close to Falcon lake, West Hawk lake and many hiking/biking trails.

We went to Penguin Resort from Aug 7-10, 2017. Immediately we were treated like Family by Irene and Ken. My 10 year old son Josh said it was our best vacation ever, better than Mexico!!!!!! It isn't a 5 star resort but the treatment is beyond 5 stars. From the moment you arrive Irene treats you like gold and checks in on you throughout to make sure everything is perfect. This personal touch and the relaxing atmosphere make it a great way place to decompress and enjoy family time. The price is low and the resort is older but is rustic and has that special charm. 30 secs from a marina where you can launch your boat. If you want a low price and to be treated like royalty this is the place for you. 5 stars and 5 hearts for customers service and care that has long gone from other resorts. It's like you go back in time to a time when customer service was king.

The owners and location are superb ...but the cleanliness and condition of Cabin 5 is mediocre....floors dirty and back west bedroom very mildewy and musty. ..especially carpet...bad for sleeping comfortably for allergy sufferers...fixing that up would bump that up to a 4.5*

Thank you Kathleen for your review. We appreciate all feed back as it helps us to improve. Since taking over in 2013 we have been working hard to upgrade the cabins with new decks, shingles, new towels, pillows, cable T.V. and WiFi. You are correct about the carpets needing to be changed and it is in our plans to replace the carpets with hard flooring that is easier to keep clean. I am sorry that it bothered your allergies.
Sincerely
Irene

We had a 2 bedroom cabin (#22) which I found spacious & well appointed. We had everything we needed as well as extras we did not expect. They even supplied beach toys as well as a special gift for the kids! I wish we could have stayed for longer than 1 night. The owner was so accommodating & welcoming. There is a great scenic trail nearby as well as a playground on a lovely beach (which we could see from our cabin).
