Bruce Miller's boat tour was recommended by our hotel, and it was absolutely worth it, even in foggy and chilly weather. Bruce is a one-man shop, and the personal touch shows. We happened to be the only two on his boat that day, as others were scared off by the weather, so Bruce let us dictate where we wanted to go. His specialty is visiting the history of the re-settled (i.e., abandoned) fishing villages along the coast; he was born in one of them. He's a trove of local historical information and political opinion. Because we love whales and dolphins and happened to come across LOTS of them, he indulged us by departing from the historical tour and following the animals. We also saw several bald eagles, loons, etc. Because we were there during the period when cod fishing is allowed, he showed us how to fish with his poles, and even how to clean the fish afterwards (he donated the fish we caught to local elderly folks). It was a GREAT couple of hours. Highly recommend it.

What an experience we lived during this magnificent excursion with Bruce Miller! The view, the stories, the pictures, the history, the whales, the eagles, the sea . . . and so much more. And what a beautiful touch; Bruce brought us to his home for tea in the by-gone community which once was his family's home. No visit to Newfoundland is complete without this outstanding experience. Good work, Bruce!

We were recomended this tour by the owner of Artisan Inn/Campbell House in Trinity.
It was fabulous 4 hours.
Bruce Miller was/is a fisherman who has had to find other ways to make a living after the moratorium on fishing in Newfoundland.
He took us out in his tinny speedboat to the old communities of Kerleys Harbour,Irelands Eye and British Harbour, all small communities up until the 60s when Joey Smallwood sold out the people by promising jobs and lifestyle if they moved to bigger centres.
Bruces Newfoundland roots and stories were facinating as was his accent and openess in discussing life here in this province.
Couldnt have asked for a better insight into Newfoundlands life both past and present
Irelands Eye was a gem of a place looking out across the Atlantic.
Visited the preserved site of Random Passage series and also was taken to Bruces cottage for a cuppa and toilet stop.
A brilliant tour bruce ...good luck in the future and we hope you dont get too big.

I cannot recommend the Rugged Beauty Boat Tour enough! I took this incredible tour with my girlfriend, led by the owner/operator Bruce Miller. We were able to see so many beautiful sites as well as lots of wildlife (both marine and other, including a number of bald eagles). Bruce's personal narrative provides an incredible look at Newfoundland's history through its fishing colonies and its development through time. This tour is a must for anyone travelling to Newfoundland!

This boat tour has it all! The rugged coastline and enormous sea cliffs are the backdrop to Captain Bruce Miller's well-told stories of fishing villages that once existed. We learned about the men, women and children who inhabited these outposts. The stories of hardship were in sharp contrast to the breathtaking beauty of the area where we saw eagles, whales and even an iceberg. Captain Bruce's warm hospitality included a stop at his family cabin where we shared a snack and some hot tea. We will always remember this spectacular tour that completed our visit to Newfoundland.
