Built by one of Alexander Graham Bell's partners this is a terrific location with main house and cottages. We opted for the Library fitted with antiques and dressed much as it was in Bell's time. Needless to say the bath is modern. Breakfast is ala carte but varied and very complete. John, our host is a real character with tons of stories and history of Baddeck

Room Tip: it's expensive but opt for the Library

We REALLY REALLY loved our room at this B&B - The Library Room - but have to give the place four stars rather than five because the breakfasts were only so-so. Yogurt and fruit are self-serve, but the yogurt is in small bowls so it is difficult to get a decent size portion. Likewise for the main course at breakfast. Fortunately, I eat small breakfasts so my (hungry) husband could eat part of mine. While the host John is friendly and personal, his helper Keith seemed to have difficulty keeping up with the breakfast service so we had to keep asking him to refill items on the table. The house is well maintained, and is a fascinating home in Baddeck history.

We were so happy to stay on this property! We didn't stay in the Inn, but in a cottage located on the site of Alexander Graham Bell's former cottage! This cottage was an excellent base to explore Baddeck's charming village and the Alexander Graham Bell Museum located nearby. The cottage is two bedroom, one bath with the master bedroom and bathroom upstairs. We watched the night sky through the skylight laying in bed! There is also a hidden Murphy bed in the great room.
The cottage is furnished tastefully and fully accommodated our every need. There is a self-catering kitchen, with a two drawer fridge and separate mini freezer, plus a full size stove/oven and micro-wave. Of course, bring your own food for cooking, coffee breakfast etc. The spa on the porch was warm and running when we got there! We were able to do a load of laundry!
The water's edge is right across the street, there was a fishing pole available!
We highly recommend this property! The Inn looked quaint, vintage and intriguing, but staying in the cottage is living on the water's edge like a local! Perfect for a family!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 night stay at Broadwater Inn while touring Cape Breton. We had the Breton Inn with its own little balcony. The room served us well! Thankful that John did trim the bush in front of our window so we could more appreciate the view. Breakfast was good and enjoyed talking with other guests and of course, hearing John's stories of life in Baddeck. Quite a history Baddeck has. I would highly recommend staying here if you u are exploring the Cabot Trail. Just want to add that we changed our reservation several times and John was very accommodating and made our stay even more enjoyable.

John, the host, was welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area. The breakfast was better than the average BNB and the room was charming. I wanted to stay an extra night without moving rooms and John was accommodating.

We really enjoyed staying at Broadwater inn For 3 nights Its a great location for exploring the glorious Cabot Trail in Cape Breton.
John the Innkeeper is indeed knowledgable
on local history and is a compelling storyteller.
This was the most expensive b & b we have stayed at this trip and the facility did not quite meet our expectations. The Inn looks like it needs sone tender loving care
And the level of decorating (painted walls/woodwork etc) was sub par in our east room. Furniture is just ok - a new small fridge had been placed in the wardrobe(?)
And a hole for the cord roughly hewn for the wire It was impossible to open without
dislodging its placement, but we unplugged it anyway because of the gurgling noise it made periodically and disturbed us during the night. The bathroom (shower) was very basic, no vanity and just a tiny table for wash-bags etc. there was some dark staining by the shower on the wall- mold maybe ?
when i pulled off the cushions on the sofa to see if it was a sofa bed an old pack of tissues & many crumbs etc were revealed
Breakfast was tasty something different each morning (eggs, quiche, ) But everything was counted and a little bit institutionalized. 6 people =3 small pieces of banana bread & 3 pieces of toast They did give more if asked. It just didn't give the impression of anything other than basic for $149 a night
I know i risk the hosts wrath by writing this report (I've read all his other responses to anything negative). However we do think with a few updates, decorating improvements and less penny pinching (poor quality toilet paper/towels/shoddy repairs/garden weeding)
Broadwater could be gorgeous and worth a
Revisit. We definitely loved Baddeck.

Thank you for your review. A home like ours recieves/requires continual daily nurturing and touch ups,due to luggage rash, chips and wear. I`m sorry but it sounds like you landed in the East rm. between dabs. (Knot Stain,no mold)
Breakfast offering is constantly replenished, no one leaves hungry.
Continual upgrades ,in room coffee service and bar fridge requires some creative thought in a period home as to placement sometimes. We are known for impecable house cleaning where a random missed crumb is speedily corrected when pointed out.
At $119 USD this B&B Suite represents great value.

Great accommodation, very comfortable and we had our own sun room to relax in after busy days touring Cape Breton and Baddeck. Our host John was great - really helpful and extremely knowledgeable - always happy to share his local knowledge which meant we were able to see and explore more that we had thought. I would definitely revisit Baddeck and stay again at Broadwater.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Verandah Suite on the ground floor and had our own sun room overlooking the beautif...
