“Chalet worth more than Tuk tour”
Reviewed 7 August 2011

Very cozy cabin with modern ammenities. Fantastic to experience the midnight sun. We had a goog night's sleep and were not too disturbed by the barking of the huskies. Our host, Jan, was very helpful and gave lots of information. On the other hand, we were disappointed by the Tuk tour which at 420$ per person was very expensive! The airplane ride over the MacKenzie delta was beautiful and Tuktuyaktuk was interesting to visit even though the Inuit are not very sociable with tourists. By the way, the very old Cessna did not not make us feel secure, please consider a more recent plane!!!
Thanks for a great stay anyway.

Judi & Olav provide for all your needs from a comfy place to rest to adventurous tours of the Arctic north of Inuvik.
This is one location you must stay and visit should your travels take you to the Western Northwest Territories. If you drive the Dempster Highway you turn off just before reaching the town of Inuvik. If you arrive by plane a shuttle (pre-arranged) will meet you at the airport.
We stayed in the deluxe cabin (3 adults) plenty of room, modern washroom and shower facilities. Lots of breakfast fare provided in your cabin to prepare whenever you choose. Plenty of dishes (under sink) should you have a crowd in to BBQ on the veranda.
You have trails to walk ,with one or more of 34 huskies, if you choose, which are friendly and well behaved. Rides into Inuvik can be prearranged if you do not have a vehicle, there are also lots of cabs in town.
Ravens, loons and other local birds are the only sounds other than the odd vehicle coming or leaving on the Dempster.
Our visit was at the start of summer.
One might like the winter tours with the sled dog team. That is for another time.
Make this a destination on your trip to the land of the midnight sun!

We had no reservations, but were accommodated in a clean, efficient cabin with kitchen.
Had all the ammenities anyone would need to stay comfortably, including Wi-Fi. The beautiful white Siberian Huskies were a treated. Well-behaved. They didn't bark or cause problems and are an added "attraction"

I can’t say enough about my 7 days at Arctic Chalet – it was an excellent experience and one which exceeded all of my expectations.
I flew to Inuvik at end of March, was collected at airport by Arctic Chalet staff and then checked into a very clean, warm, and comfortable cabin. Arctic Chalet is located on a lake a few kms outside of Inuvik, and so has a better sense of wilderness than other Inuvik accommodation and, although this meant an occasional drive into town for supplies, this arrangement was a good fit to my purpose.
My hosts, Judi and Olav, went out of their way to create a unique and challenging itinerary for me, and their love for, and knowledge of, the arctic was obvious. This certainly helped ensure that my experiences over the week were exciting, varied and comprehensive. Also, having the 36 (?) beautiful white huskies on site was a bonus – although close by, the dogs were never a disturbance and were completely quiet at night.
My week went too quickly and I was sorry to leave – next time (2013?) I will be driving the Dempster Highway to Inuvik and will not hesitate to stay at the Arctic Chalet.

After driving up the Dempster we stayed at the Arctic Chalet for 2 nights. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The supplies in the kitchen were adequate and we added a few things with a quick stop at the grocery store. The dogs were friendly and we took one for a short hike one morning. The dogs are remarkably quite after 10:00 pm. They seem to know that's bed time. You are a bit out of town but it's well worth it for the feelling of being in a cabin in the wilderness. We would definitely stay there again.

We were two men from Denmark, which this summer was on a five-week canoe expedition on rivers in the northern NWT.
Canoe and all the gear we rented from Arctic Charlet and we had a couple of nights here before we started the expedition. The cabines are clean and very cozy and contains precisely as needed.
Olav and Judi were extremely helpful in getting everything to work before departure and we had stored all the baggage that we should not use during the expedition.
After the five weeks we were picked up by the floatplane and we subsequently had three days of Arctic Charlet before returning to Denmark. Again we saw an unusually large hospitality and we felt really at home and very well treated.
We were a couple of times transported to enter the city because all cars were rented and must say that the service was absolutly in top.
Arctic Charlet has approx. 35 huskies but you hear almost no noise from them. After 10 pm, there is total peace from this side.
Thank you to Olav and Judi! We really appreciate staying with you and can only give our warmest recommendations to the Arctic Charlet.

We traveled by auto up the splendid Dempster Highway with our two small grandchildren this July. The views were magnificent and the road was great for a gravel road. We made a reservation at the Arctic Chalet months ahead and the owners gave us great tips to prepare for our trip up this road. Our cabin was spacious, spotless, and comfortable. The decor was elegant and Judi and Olav made us feel at home. They gave us ideas of where the "must see places" were. We were interested in flying up to Tuk on the Arctic Ocean. Judi arranged for us to do this and they took us to the airport and picked us up. We have traveled extensively and the Arctic Chalet tops the list of places we have stayed in.
