Just got the turkey dinner for takeout as I know that it's a good place to eat from past stops. Coleslaw is amazing, stuffing and turkey were too, mashed potatoes were good, though not butter provided, nor much gravy. No salad or soup or dessert surprised me a bit. Not a lot of food for $29+ with tax (2 orders) we didn't stay there but the review is asking about rooms so I had to score it.
My family and I stayed in Aunt Mabel's family suite. I was shocked when I first walked into our room. Tastefully decorated, all new Reno from top to bottom! They have thought of it all! Two separate rooms from the living room (yes, three rooms!) my wife and I had one child in one room and the other in the main bedroom. We were able to relax together and watch tv without disturbing the children! For young and old families alike you know how hard that is staying in a hotel/motel and getting that time. The restaurant has some of the tastiest meals in town. Service is an A++ Great folks working there. Made us feel comfortable and right at home. A special thanks to the Miller's and all of their staff for making our labour day long weekend extra special. Also owned by these nice people are the Poplar cottages over on Green St. Stayed there many times and always a treat. Thanks Brian and Glenda, we can't wait to come back soon!! Sincerely The Herrings
I usually try to stay in hotels because I find motels some what sketchy, this motel is very very clean my room had a/c which was very cool, flat screen with cable and wifi with exceptional service. the room it self had fresh towels coffee maker and fridge. Bed was comfy and clean. Morning I went to dinner hasd basic breakfast was hot and prepared well, overall great stay and an amzazing price.
By all means eat here! Excellent food and service. Highly recommend the Steak and Mushroom Pie. Breakfast's are good. Very busy when we were there on a Monday evening and apparently not usually so busy so they weren't staffed for it. But our waitress was amazing, making sure we had everything... and doing it all with a smile! The Hotel is clean. That's all I can say for it and of course, that's important. We've stayed there twice and both times weren't impressed with the Hotel but were with the Restaurant. The lady who runs the motel appears to be 'put out' that you're asking her to do anything... we asked if they had a room available for the night... that's all! And she kind of sighed and didn't seem too happy anyone was wanting to rent a room. We felt the same 'cold shoulder' the first time (a year ago) and thought maybe just caught her at a bad time. The room is small but functional and does come with a microwave, small fridge and coffee maker. The tub had whirlpool jets... nice if you can get the tub plug to work! Both times we stayed we had problems. My hubby fiddled with it until he got it to work. Bathtub was broken (plastic casing cracked) on the outside that hadn't been fixed (although in fairness we don't know how long it's been like that). Appeared to be mould on the wall by the tub... washed but the stain was there. (How hard is it to paint a bit over it?) Beds are ok for comfort... both my hubby and I had sore backs but we are pretty picky when it comes to mattresses. Won't be giving the Hotel a 3rd chance... will stay somewhere else and continue to go to the restaurant. The ONLY reason this rating is getting 4 stars is because of the Restaurant... Rating on the Restaurant is 5 otherwise. Rating on the Hotel would be 2 stars at best. Oh... and the soap they provide is awful... if you do stay there, bring your own.
This place is excellent and we cant wait to go back.The food is all homemade and you can taste the quality that goes in to it.They have daily specials and fresh made soup.We loved the fish&chips and the open faced hot turkey.We stayed at the Colonial Motel and it was recommend by many guest staying there so we went and it was so good we went back again later in the week.This is the place to go when in Port Elgin,the prices are great for a family.We highly recommend this great restaurant you will go back.
