Had a very pleasant dinner here after cycling 25km from Picton.

We seem to get to Wellington about once a year, and always hope to eat here, but it's usually fully booked and until last week we were never organized enough to make a reservation.
It was worth the wait.
Why? Lots of little things.

The litre bottle of tap water on the table was a good start.
The A C was set to a good temperature, just a gentle cool breeze on a very hot summer's day.

The wait staff were efficient and attentive. More water was brought as needed. Extra bread was supplied. The waiter at the next table gave a detailed rundown of other restaurants in the area. He also knew the local wines, and provided the group with a free sample to help them choose.

The decor was good, dark and muted. Real candles, chandeliers and mirrors added light to a deep space. Drapes were hung on the wall to add warmth and mute the noise of conversation. A pet peeve of mine is ugly ceilings. This place has nice an uncluttered plain white ceiling, decorated only by the reflections off the light fixtures.

The guests were respected and respectful. A small baby sat with his family at a large tall central table, and a francophone group included four grade school kids, all of whom were well behaved.

Food? Yes, it was good.
The bread was fresh and crispy with real butter.
I had a sirloin steak with mushrooms and home-cut french fries. Very good, cooked as I requested, and a generous portion. My wife had the chicken in bacon which was also excellent. The menu is not too long and has a vegetarian option. A local Barley Days pale ale went down very nicely.
The deserts - Creme Brulee and Cheesecake were good, although my wife could not detect the promised goat's cheese in the cheesecake. The coffee was good, with free efills. The bill came to just under $100, which was very fair for the portion size, quality and ambience.
Next time we plan a trip to Wellington, we will make a reservation here again!

Had steak and fries which were ok but nothing special. Best part of the meal was the lychee martini....

We have had many meals at the Bistro and are consistently pleased with the menu choices and quality of dining experience. Recently had dinner for two and lunch for eight. A little disappointed that grilled cheese option was no longer on the lunch menu but enjoyed both meals just the same. The bacon-wrapped-chicken dinner was superb!

went recently with another couple and enjoyed the ambiance and excellent service. The food was very good especially the appetizer with crab and avocado. It was very busy when we went however still felt they gave us good attention, and pleased with the food choices.

We visit PEC every 6-8 weeks. East & Main is always on the list of places to stop.
Service and food is never a disappointment. Kimberly, Jeremy and Nicole always make us feel at home.
Just so happens, we'll be back there next weekend!... Can't wait!!
