One of the best beaches in the world! Thanks to its location within a national park, it has been left in its natural state. You won’t find merry-go-rounds or high rise hotels here, thank goodness. Instead, you will find a surprising mixture of sand dunes and red cliffs. There is a supervised area with lifeguards and a long stretch of beach where you can easily claim a spot for yourself away from the crowds. Amenities available: cantine, change rooms, showers, hiking trails, ample parking, federal park campground

This national park place should rate as one of the top beaches in the world. It can be busy only at the single entrance to the supervised swimming area on a hot day like today, but you can spread out to solitude over its nearly 10 km length. The beach is massively wide even at high tide and the sand is pristine, fine-grained and excellent for walking along the massive dunes, offering stark contrast to the red shades closer to the water. You can walk quite a ways into the warm waves and meet several sand bars before your cooling dip. It is wild, with no amenities away from the timid tourists at the entry area. Simply gorgeous. As an alternative on the island, try Basin Head north of Souris (see my review).

We caught the tail end of Hurricane Debby so there was lots of rain, but we were limited on time, so we went out anyway. Beautiful beach and the water was bath tub warm. Hardly a soul in sight so we had a beautful long walk.

We spent some time on Cavendish Beach. It was very busy, but that was easy to understand considering it was a sunny day on such a beautiful beach. The water temperatures were about 20C (approx. 70F). The sand was soft and red which was beautiful. Nearby we could see the cliffs over the beach. While not the best walking beach, this is a great spot to sunbathe and swim.

Great place to visit.

Beautiful sandy beach. Amazing views with lots of sand and clean water.

No shaded areas to sit. Bring your own umbrellas, and don’t forget your sunglasses!

Has showers on boardwalk to rinse off.

Has ice cream shop on boardwalk.

Can get busy.
