“5 Star for the area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 December 2011

My husband and I were here in October for two nights. We drove up from Quebec City to see the fall leaves, which were breathtaking by the way. We are not "bed and breakfast" people, so we chose the Fairmont. Viewing the rooms on their website, I knew they were a bit dated. Was I in for a surprise! The hotel is in the process of renovations and we were given a newly redone room. It was lovely and the bath, although small, was beautiful with a great shower and some nice wall storage. They took advantage of their space. We had requested a St. Lawrence view room which is definitely worth it. Our windows could open and we loved the cool fresh air. We booked early and had no problem getting a view, plus we got a great rate.

The grounds are lovely and they have a casino-I think one of three in Canada. I love the slot machines, so I did spend a little time there!! The lobby is very "old school" elegant with a nice lobby bar. There were several events going on at the hotel, so that made things a bit lively, which was fun. We had dinner the first night at the restaurant Le Charlevoix and it was very good. The second night we took a 20 to 25 minute walk to town and had a great dinner at Chez Trouchon. We were so full we decided to walk back and felt very safe. The concierge at the hotel had menus from several nearby restaurants and they made the reservations for us.

If you stay here, remember that french is the main language, but everyone was eager to please and I know a tiny bit of french that helped some. We did join Fairmont's reward program, so that gave us free wifi in our room, which was nice to have.

Two nights in the area was plenty for us. We drove up to Tadassous(sp) which was very quaint and full of local charm, but we would have gotten bored if we had stayed longer. But we like cities and my husband can't sit around for long!

We went early October and it was in the 30's at night. Coming from a hot summer in the south, we really enjoyed the cold. Plus, as I said, the leaves were beautiful. If I went back to this area, I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a water view and a room that had recently been renovated

I'm always dubious of hotels with casinos attached to them....
I think many would come to this hotel and completely enjoy it but I think in this case I might have found a smaller hotel in the area better for my liking.

I do not have anything bad to say about the hotel but it is not particularly unique.

The beds were comfortable and the pool area nice. But we had weather and could not lounge by it.

We stayed here at the end of April 2011. There was a little snow on the ground but spring was definitely in the air. Very easy drive from Old Quebec City. This hotel is very beautiful with the feel of a castle, and is located along the St. Lawrence River in La Malbaie, Quebec. This is a full service hotel with luxurious decor. The views are wonderful, walking trail along the river and a Casino right across the road. Whale watching is less than 70km away. This is a wonderful destination for a mini getaway. The restaurants are wonderful, the food was delicious and the views were spectacular! I would highly reccomend this hotel!

Just came back from 1 week vacation at the Manoir with my wife and 2 yound children.
we've booked a room with a view on the St Laurent river. The view was spectacular.
The room was big enough for 4 persons.
In the hotel there were a lot of activities specially for the kids with a large room filled with games, puzzle, etc. The staff was very professional and very helpfull.
The food was great at the St Laurent restaurant. However at the Belrive (buffet style) the food was very common.
The casino very close by bring a lot of people at the hotel and sometimes you are surrounded with eldery people. They loved to see kids running around...
I just have to mention the golf course : a beauty !!!

Room Tip: when you take the st laurent river view make sure you have a 180 degres view

If you are ever in this beautiful part of the country, treat yourself to a stay at the Fairmont Manoir Richelieu. Located in pretty La Malbaie Quebec, it's about a 2 hour drive north of Quebec City and about 40 minutes from Baie St. Paul. Situated on the St. Lawrence River, this rambling property has walking trails, fabulous decks, patios, restaurants and rooms all overlooking the river. A huge firepit with muskoka chairs and marshmellows in the evening is attractive for both young and old. Immaculately manicured lawns and gardens, nice restaurants and a casino on site (which we did not go into). The service is top notch Fairmont. The rooms, albeit not huge, are clean and comfortable.

Things to note. Ask for a room on the river - the views are amazing. Most, if not all Fairmont hotels have windows that open - a bonus if you want to hear the sounds of the river and enjoy fresh air. Also, this group is pet friendly offering a lots of places to walk and enjoy the company of your pets. If you go, brush up on your French. Most hotel staff are bilingual however you may run into a challenge in the boutiques or restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a river view. It's well worth the price difference, which is minor.

This is a real castle, it's very well managed as usual for a Fairmont Hotel group, with lot of facilities such as a beautyful golf course, heated outside pool, an elegant casinò, warm rooms and a spectacula view on the Saint Lorenz river.
It is located close to Tadousac where you can explore the river and have thrilling whale watching, I reccomend to take an adventure by zodiac, it's the best way.

We checked in on Saturday, Labor Day weekend. The hotel was full and eventhough we had booked ahead a nonsmoker-room, we got a supposedly "cleaned-aired"smokers room that reeked of tobacco. The room was small and we could easily follow the conversation in the next room through the adjoining door. Staff was condescending when we tried to complain about the sub-standard accommodations. This will be the last of mostly disappointing stays at Manoir Richelieu.
