The first time at L'Aventurier Du Gouin we were taken aback by the sheer size of this imposing body of water. Not yet seasoned boatsmen, we took it slow and ventured out close to the auberge. Francois and Genevieve shared their expertise to help us newcomers to "find" the hotspots where fish were recently biting. We also availed ourselves of the expert guide(s) who helped us understand where, when and why fish were at the numerous areas during the given weather periods. Once we knew where we could go, the rest was simply a matter of returning by ourselves to those areas (some close / some farther away). Once you find the Walleye - WOW is it fun to fish! Catching your limit can take 3 days or ten minutes (really no lie). It has been five consecutive years we return each spring to enjoy not only the incredible fishing of Dore and Pike but also the truly Five Star meals at the auberge. The boats are clean, motors easy to use and super reliable. The most impressive thing about this establishment, aside from the excellent fishing, is the entire staff that serves you. From the pick up at the parking lot for the 40 minute boat ride across the reservoir to the serving staff for your daily meals to the cook who somehow manages to produce truly 5 star meals in a kitchen smaller than some closets. When we wanted a different pace from fishing all day we took walks along their sandy beach or sat around a fire watching the moon. All in all a remarkable place made even more special by the professional staff that all seem to somehow invoke a really close family atmosphere. See you again.
