As the title says, real waste of money if you head there in the off-season. We stayed a weekend, November 17,18th and were so disappointed by the lack of activities to do for this time of year. There was not one single activity we could participate in. All animation had ended and there were no alternatives. You could pay to go horseback riding or pay for ATV excursions but that was it. I suggested to have at least horseshoes, archery, billiard tourneys, darts, bonfire get-totether. Fishing guides or trails to secluded spots, singalongs, story telling etc.
Location: To die for, even in the dead of fall. Beautiful location, very secluded, gorgeous buildings, huge log cabins with exposed logs inside.
Reception: very friendly and efficient, but did not explain the resort enough to us.
Restaurants:
Breakfast: included in the package, we had buffet both of the days because there were a number of guests at the resort, but sometimes they do a la carte menu breakfasts. Great selection and a very nice presentation. Food was always fresh, crepes and french toast were my favorite. Yogurt, fresh fruit, fresh juices, cold cuts, cheeses, eggs easy over or scrambled, potatoes, toast making station, coissants, danishes, saussage, ham, cereal etc. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent
Dinner: 5 service included in our package. Very diverse menu and gourmet is to say the least. We enjoyed our dinners very much. Service (tip) was included - which might be...As the title says, real waste of money if you head there in the off-season. Dinner: 5 service included in our package. Very diverse menu and gourmet is to say the least. We enjoyed our dinners very much. Service (tip) was included - which might be a mistake. The plates were very well presented and I never felt hungry. sometimes gourmet food means one quarter of the plate for food and 3 quarters for decoration. Not in this case. I have nothing bad to say. Some of the things on the menu are strange to say the least, but surprisingly good. Here is an example: squash ice cream? - good.
Rooms: basic is not the word. I was very disappointed. for the price, the rooms should have been a bit nicer, more updated. The beds should reflect the getaway experience you are looking for. Not comfy at all. Pillows were worse. Either too fluffy (sleep on a 45 degree angle) or too flat, may as well have nothing. Everything was clean and the view wasn't bad from the balcony even if we did not have a prefered view - it was still nice
Entertainment/Activities: Nothing was organized because of off- season. For the cost of the resort, they should improve this area. There was an indoor swimming pool with a hot tub and a spa at the end. The locker rooms had lockers, showers, sinks, saunas and benches. The pool area and the locker areas were very tastefully decorated.
There is a bar with a fireplace and cozy seating sections with a great view, the bar itself with tables and a billiard table. It was a cute area to go in order to read the news paper, a book, hang out and talk and have a drink after dinner.
Games room: in a separate building, with a horrid excuse of gaming material. Cold, dirty, barren. Now, this is an expensive place to getaway to, so expecting above average and even average facilities is not much to expect. The dart board was the most miserable I have ever seen. Darts were broken, board was worn to the point of not being able to make the darts stick, the ping-pong paddles were not even usable, 2 video games, a vending machine for pop, table soccer was ok, worn out couches, old rickety tv in the corner, a makeshift bar, 2 bathrooms. The games building has great potential. It's location was great, views were gorgeous. I was expecting a lot more especially seeing this is about the only thing in the off season you can do, beside go for walks along the pedestrian trails (which were very nice, I will say)
Spa: I did not go so I have no comment. The reception area of the spa was what you would expect.
Parking: No problems, close by and free.
In the summer or in the winter snow, I know this place lives up to the price, but I felt that the fall activities were very lacking. I want to be as helpful as possible and yes that means giving a negative review sometimes. I have travelled before and I am not an overly picky and difficult to please person. I just want to get my money's worth when I spend a lot of money, and want to get what I paid for when I don't spend a lot of money. I did not get my money's worth for a late fall vacation getaway.More
