We stayed at Casa Encantada in March. A perfect two-night stay. It's a half block from the main plaza which is a wonderful place to sit and watch the local world go by in the late afternoon and early evening. Victoria, the owner, is daily presence at breakfast, and full of great recommendations, especially if you are venturing out into surrounding towns. Peaceful, and relaxing. Watch out for the 2 for 1 happy hour...hahaha.

My wife and I recently spent 5 nights in Patzcuaro and the surrounding towns. We stayed at the Hotel Casa Encantanda as our home base as we drove around the local towns. I could go on about the hotel but everything you read on trip advisor about how good it is we agree with.
What I don't read about very often is how people got here and how safe they felt. We travelled to Patzcuaro via renting a car in Zihuatenejo and driving up. Loved it, a very picturesque road trip with lots of police on the road. I considered that to be a good thing as they may have been looking for someone or not. It was the same last year when we drove up with a friend who introduced us to the area.
Once in Patzcuaro we ventured around by foot and explored the many different squares, churches, restaurants, and many different things to see. We loved the Plaza Vasco de Quiroga at night as the music played, the vendors selling hot corn, coffee and chocolate. It was the 1st week of Semana santa and the beginning of the celebrations where getting underway with many different displays being set up and events happening daily.
We travelled to Santa Clara del Cobre, Tzintzuntzan and to Uruapan for day trips that where absolutely wonderful and easy to get to. We used google maps as our GPS everywhere we went and it worked no problem. I will write individual reviews on each location but would recommend this trip to anyone. You may want to take public transport if driving isn't your thing, you must be a strong driver as the Mexicans are aggressive drivers and may intimidate the average person.
We never once felt unsafe, we never allowed ourselves to get into any situations that felt uncomfortable. It would be the same as home, if you feel that something is wrong then it probably is, don't do it or go there. I have felt more unsafe in Canada than I did on this trip.
Go, enjoy, you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: any room you choose you'll like it

We just visited Patzcuaro for the fifth time and have always stayed in Casa Encantada. The central downtown location is close to everything. Offering the architectual surroundings of an original eighteenth century hacienda, as well as Casa Encantada's beautiful gardens make for a memorable stay. Every room is decorated uniquely with tradionall Mexcian accents. A fillling breakfast is included every morning by the attentive staff. The owner, Victoria Ryan, is a long time ex-patriot resident and a well known artist & sculptor. Many of her works are displayed around the property, as well. When looking at lodging options for a Patzcuaro vacation, Hotel Casa Encantada is always on the top of our list!

Such a quiet and lovely hacienda near the plaza. Walk to everything. Very safe charming Town. Breakfast was terrific. Victoria was friendly and so helpful as was Luis. Fortunate to be here during Semana Santa with all the processions and craft market in the plaza. Lots of great street food and don’t miss the pasta ice cream!

This is one of the best BnB ever. The rooms were spacious and clean. The service was the best. It was a safe place to stay, very secure. I never felt unsafe at the hotel and in Patzcuaro and surrounding towns. So much to see and do. In the three days we were there, we still did not see everything. I recommend this BnB very highly!!!

Room Tip: They do have rooms on the second floor. If you don't like stairs ask for the first floor.

Thank you so much... We enjoy making sure that we do our part in making your stay as comfy and enjoyable as we can. We really do. The goal is easy. I try to create a beautiful, elegant & yet casual oasis in which people can feel at home and taken care of at a reasonable price. Again, thanks for taking the time to comment..and thank you for the kind words about the Hotel and about Patzcuaro and the surrounding areas.
