Day of the Dead celebrations are just a few weeks away and I won't be in Patzcuaro because I didn't make my reservation in time. In October 2005 my sister and I stayed at La Casa Encantada a restored colonial residence a block from the town square. This B&B is great. Wonderful rooms (each decorated differently from the other by the owner a local artist) quiet gardens with fountains and plenty of seating for reading, resting and sunning. Breakfast includes daily hot entrees as well as fresh fruit and juices and the local pastries. The bilingual friendly staff was very helpful in planning daily activities in Patzcuaro and the surrounding towns. The owners are well versed in local lore of this former capital and can recommend various establishments for shopping and dining. Do not miss booking your 1 - 3 hour massage - Heaven. I can't wait to come back and bring my husband to a suite with a fireplace and a personalized massage and catered dinner!
