This was our first time in the Laguna Santa Maria. The place is really beautiful and the resort itself is also very nice. The grounds are kept up pretty well. We had good food and excellent service at the hotel restaurant. We stayed in a hotel room and it was very spacious. I agree with other reviewers that some details are missing, especially for the price of the room. This was a last minute stay for us and we tried calling the number on their website multiple times the day before arrival and the day we wanted to arrive -- the phone rang and no one ever answered it. The response to this at the front desk was that that number is only answered from 9am-2pm and then 4pm to some other time (it was not very clear). We called during those hours but no answer. He told us otherwise you have to call his cell phone number which is not publicized anywhere. The pool water is not heated and the bottom was quite slippery due to algae growing in it. The wi-fi only works (very slowly) in the lobby. Another detail is that there is a coffee maker and bottle water in your room but no coffee is supplied. It's details like these that make this place not quite worth the price of the room, in my humble opinion.

We rented one of the Cabañas in this resort because we wanted to relax and to be a little bit upside from the main stream tourism. The lake is fabulous to swim, canoe or just relaxing. The entrance to the lake is little bit complicated especially for kids. You must jump from the shore. The Cabañas are nice and functional. The wifi only works at the lobby and there is almost no telephone reception. Our room was invaded by ants, but the staff took care about this and after fumigating and 2 hours of waiting the problem was under control. You are in the nature ! The restaurant is good and maybe the best you can find around this lake. You can go for a walk or jogging around the lake : it's about 14 km . Have fun, we will come back !

The Santa Maria Resort is lovely!! The grounds are well maintained; the cabanas are a log cabin, open chalet type, very pretty; with full kitchens; I didn't see the individual hotel rooms, just the cabanas. The staff was attentive, but not in your face. We had a good time, the resort is right on a lake; there is complimentary use of the kayaks; mountain bikes; you can rent an independent water shuttle and they'll take you cruising around the lake. All very relaxing.
Because it has a very nice resort atmosphere, I wanted the details to be there as well; but a few are missing. We arrived late at night and immediately crashed. When we awoke I noticed that the sheets had ALOT of hair; we all shed, but in one night, not that much - gaack. There was enough hot water, but of the 50 jets in the showerhead only 15 jets emitted water ( I had plenty of time to count the jets, it takes a long time to rinse!).
So, it's up to you, as to what is the most important. Great ambiance, but missing the essentials; bed and bath.

We just spent 3 days relaxing at the resort and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The room was beautiful, the gardens spectacular and the staff were friendly and attentive.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room - the cabins have full kitchens which appear to be well stocked.
