Thanks for a fantastic holiday! We spent most of our time around the main pool of Coba. The entertainment team made our holiday. They are so friendly and make an effort to get everybody involved with the activities. I don't know how they can stay so happy all day, every day, they were fantastic!
Elsewhere around the hotel all the staff are so friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. We only ate at the buffet restaurants, but that was our choice, not to book the other restaurants, because we have kids. All the food was brilliant for choice and quality.
Right, here are our flaws.
The lobby areas are quite hot, there is not enough fans/air-con. It would have been nice if the bars stayed open a little later. They shut about 11.30pm, but the bar in the show theatre shut as soon as the show finished. This meant that there was a rush for the lobby bar to get a seat and a drink before 11.30. There was a disco in another part of the hotel, but families couldn't go there with under 18s. It would be nice if all the bars stayed open until midnight. One more thing, we done the dolphin swim, which was great. But after we were shocked that the photos cost as much as the swim. 340 USD is too much for some photos and a DVD! Then when we said that it was too much they cut the price by half. One of the trips that we done outside the hotel, charged 25 USD, for all the photos on a cd. That's more like it!
Don't take these negative points too badly, overall we had a brilliant holiday. But I'm sure these points have been raised before.
Again, thanks for a fantastic holiday! The entertainers were great!

The most amazing holiday ive ever been on! We went as a group of 40, weather was perfect apart from the freak tropical thunderstorms that were scary at first but you soon got used to them!
Hotel rooms were immaculate and clean towels were given everyday, bed was made and the air con worked well, very well. In fact i woke up shivering one night so went outside and soon warmed up!
When you first arrive the lizards lurking around seem to be abit weird, so you take pictures of them, by our second week we didnt even notice them!
there was entertainment right through the day that kept you going and you didnt even realise the time! night time entertainment stopped at 11 though which was quite early and also they have shows on every night, but the same shows every 2 weeks, unfortunately we booked 2 weeks there that had the same shows on.
Food was immense, they had every food you could think of, it was clean and the waiters wouldnt let your cup be empty!!
would definately come back here without a shadow of a doubt!!
the entertainment staff were brilliant and got to know us all very wekk, still have them on fb now, 3 years on, except for 1 guy called Aaron, who sadly passed away earlier on this year. RIP aron, you were awesome :) xx

We are a retired couple who have been traveling all over the Caribean since 1993. We have returned to many resorts during our travels but have never and I mean never been treated as well as we have when we found out about the Coba Principe.
Our first trip was in 2007 with Apple Vacations from the time we arrived to the time we left we were treated like family, anything we wanted management went out of their way to provide.
such as Room location, A La Carte Reservations, and Wine selection etc.
We loved the way we were treated by management and the staff that we decided this would be our second home. We try to get away at least 4 times a year, but always book Coba for Oct/Nov, may/June, Jan/Feb, the 4th time is always a sneak away if our schedual allows.
After our 10th stay we were presented with a brass and wood wall plack inscribed with the following Bahia Principe Clubs @ Resorts

We (family of four - 2 adults, and 2 girls, aged 17 and 12) stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe, Coba from the 4th to 18th August. This was our first time in Mexico and our first all inclusive - we loved it. What a fantastic place!! Obviously, we have nothing to compare this hotel to but I really could not find anything major to complain about.

Starting from the top......
Check in was swift. We were greeted with a cocktail and whisked away to our room within 10 minutes. As we were travelling with Virgin, check in (and out) was at the much quieter Akumal Premier Lobby - so no problems there.

Pleasantly surprised by the room - ultra clean, large and comfy. We had requested a room on the 2nd/3rd floor, near the pools as well as mattress toppers for the beds - all based on reviews we'd seen on here. We got everything we asked for. Air conditioning was perfectly adequate, no musty smells or bugs - all in all, no issues as far as we were concerned. The room was located close to both the activity and quiet pools, also close to the Coba lobby.

We spent most of our time at the activity pool because of our girls and thoroughly enjoyed watching, and on occasion, joining in with the activities. There was boccia, water polo, water aerobics, salsa dancing and zumba to name a few. The animation team do a great job - there's gentle encouragement to join in but no pressure. The girls made lots of friends which allowed us at times to go off and do our own thing. We went to the beach regularly which was beautiful although there was a hurricane in the first few days of our holiday and the beach was closed off due to some fairly substantial damage.

We booked our a la carte meals at the beginning of our stay - our first week seemed to be booked solid but we managed to book what we wanted. Worth noting, that bookings are cancelled all the time, so if you don't get the times/restaurants you want at first, try again a couple of days later. We ate at El Pescador (Fish and Seafood), Tequila (Mexican), Le Gourmet (Gourmet), Portofino (Italian), Mikado (Japanese) and Il Gran Tortuga (Brazilian). The Brazilian and Japanese were the best - we got a show table at the Japanese so could see all the food being cooked. At the Brazilian, the food was brought round on swords and cut at the table - steak, fish, sausages, chicken, turkey, all marinated and cooked beautifully. You're given red and green cards - if you keep the green card face up, your feed just keeps coming. If you've had enough, turn the red card up and it stops. We had good meals in all the restaurants - my only comment on the Mexican was that the menu seemed limited and didn't really contain what you might expect in terms of dishes. Aside from the a la cartes, there are 2 buffet restaurants at the Coba - the Kukulcan and the Cozumel. We mainly ate at the large one (Kukulcan) - so much choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner, would be hard not to find something you liked. Only comment was that, although there was always fresh fruit, it was mainly melon and pineapple (all cut up) - would have been nice to get whole apples, bananas etc. We later noticed that there were large fruit dishes in the lobbies that you could take fruit from - oh well.....

Entertainment continued into the evening with either a party or karaoke on the terrace or in the music bar if raining until 10. There was an evening show from 10 until 11 - all very entertaining with a good standard of performers. From 11, there was live music from a Latin band (with dancing) at the Hacienda until midnight. And if you still weren't ready for bed, the nightclub opened at midnight and went on until 2am.

Despite having read lots of comments about the size of the resort and getting around the hotels, have to say this was not an issue at all. Nowhere was that far, however, it was hot and humid and being transported around in one of the many carts was a much more comfortable option. We never waited long for a cart, we never got lost and quickly got used to the layout.

We never encountered poor service in any part of the hotel. The staff were super friendly - one of the waiters made bonnets out of napkins for our girls and was happy to pose for pictures. The bartenders worked really hard - they didn't stop but always remained friendly and smiling. The rooms were kept scrupulously clean and stocked up. We rarely used the minibar as we spent so little time in the room so never had an issue with running out of drinks. The maids would sometimes make animals from the towels and decorate the beds. One curious thing..... after about 10 days, the number of towels left for us kept reducing. First from 4 to 3 and then from 3 to 2. We did have to ring on about 4 occasions to get extra towels - mostly they arrived fairly quickly, but sometimes they did not. This was a minor irritant and it did seem very odd given that we'd had no problems to start with - maybe one for the management to look into.

There was no shortage of sunbeds at the beach. This wasn't the case by the pools we went to though. As has been said on trip advisor many times, the only way to get a bed was to come very early and reserve with towels. We did see many beds with noone sat at them for the whole morning - we were also aware that people saved beds at the pool and also at the beach simultaneously (perhaps at a number of pools even). A stricter regime is needed here by the management.

The grounds are kept beautifully - there are workers scrubbing tiles and clearing away all day. The hurricane had created quite a bit of mess around the hotel and grounds - this was quickly being cleared away and was back to normal in no time. We had quite a few rain storms, and when it rained it really rained - again though, the excess water was cleared away really quickly. It was lovely to see the iguanas and the coyotes roaming round the hotel grounds. One day we saw a pack of coyotes (probably about 30) from the tiniest to the biggest - quite a sight!

Our girls had the opportunity to swim with the dolphins at Dolphinarus - they loved this. We ended up buying lots of photos for an extortionate amount of money - so beware.

To finish the review, the biggest mention must go to the Animation team. The complex has all the right ingredients for a super holiday, but the Animation team really do pull it all together and make it an experience. The guys and girls were fantastic - we got to know most of them. They were so friendly, energetic and fun. Although they looked like they were having a good time, these guys work really long hours. Special thanks to Jorge, Cristian, Israel (my dance partner), Sofia, Jesus, Luis (Zumba teacher extraordinaire) and all the others that made this holiday memorable for all the right reasons. PS... we'd love to get a playlist of the music played by the pool, particularly the Zumba tracks...

Would highly recommend this hotel.

I do appreciate your time you put into your cooment in order to inform us about your stay, nevertheless it points out that we need to strenghen our communication between the Front Desk and Mantenance department. Firstly, I like to focus on positives when reviewing hotels. Its easy to pick up on small annoyances wherever you go, even at my favourite place in the world - Crete, but the good points about this resort far outweigh any bad points. I have to also say that I have read numerous reviews, both before we travelled and after we returned home, about GBP, which comment on what I would consider to be minor grievances, that I sometimes wonder if anything could ever be right for some holidaymakers/reviewers.

We made some plans beforehand to make the most of this holiday. We booked a private transfer from Cancun; we emailed Felix to book 6 of our 8 a la carte restaurants beforehand, leaving a final 2 choices at the end for rebookings; we booked our holiday via Virgin so knew the departure tax had already been paid; we brought Mexican Pesos; we decided that we would visit as many Mayan sites as possible; we were happy to make our own arrangements for trips and use the local Collectivo service which is brilliant and cheap.

We arrived, exhausted, after a 9 hour flight from London, at the Premier lobby. Cases were unloaded and the bellboys took charge. We were at the wrong lobby so Felix personaly drove us to Club Golden. Check in was easy, our 2 rooms were allocated - 30930/30931. We arrived and found spotless rooms, a full fridge, and massive beds. Roms were great. Throughout the holiday, our maid, Jazmin, was brilliant. She was friendly, efficient, made amazing towel art and we felt really safe. The beds were firm but very comfortable. Although the rooms get warm, be aware that if you keep the ceiling fan on all night, you may well wake up feeling cold as it is so efficient. The fridge was filled daily with anything you used and you would certainly never go thirsty. The cans were a selection of coke, sprite, fanta, diet versions of these and Dos Equis lager, plus bottles of water and crisps/chocolate.

In order not to duplicate other reviews, here are a few bullet points re eating etc.

Snack bars at the pools - absolutely perfect for snacks, friendly staff (Fernando in quiet pool snackbar as an example), good overall selection (we liked the help yourself drinks machine at the activity pool snackbar).

Coba Buffet (Kukulcan) - massive, loads of choice, due to size some food inevitably gets cool; we liked the healthy section, many sections where chefs are cooking to order, chocolate fountain occasionally; most waiters very keen to help but some times they are just too busy to meet all demands.
Cozumel Premier buffet - smaller, friendlier, not so much choice but a good alternative for a quieter less hectic breakfast.

Our favourite a la carte restaurants
Tequila ( Mexican-Tulum) Brilliant atmosphere, great Mexican food, good service, Mariarchi band playing live in restaurant.
Dolce Vita (Italian - Akumal) - just great fun, we were absolutely stuffed - the buffet starters were amazing and enough for a whole meal, then there was the rest, again gorgeous, great service too.
Le Gourmet (gourmet-Coba) - We loved the 'theatre' of the evening, we felt very special dressing up and were treated so well, amazing duck and steak meals. Ask for the Irish coffee for a 'flaming show' at the end.
Don Pablo (gourmet - Tulum) - more relaxed than Le Gourmet but great food and service, plus the flaming Irish coffee show.

Post meals, the shows at Coba were fun, variable in quality but we are on holiday so sit down, drink cocktails and enjoy. The entertainment staff do a fabulous job and work so hard. As far as cocktails are concerned, have you ever watched one person create 3 cocktails at the same time. These staff are incredibly hard workers and always have smiles on their faces.

I love beaches and whilst I would not consIder the hotel beaches as my all time favourites, they were fine and warm, clean, and had lovely fish.
The many pools were clean, although I worry about the one pool which housed the pool party every Saturday after many hours of drinking. Again, very hard working staff; my wife and daughter enjoyed the aqua aerobics and dance lessons.

The hotel grounds are fantastic. They are constantly looked after. The grass is cut regularly and the beds are watered every day. The wildlife is wonderful - iguanas, coatis, lizards, capybaras, butterflies and exotic birds.

Getting around is easy. We were determined not to use the tourist trains before we arrived but it soon became obvious that to make the most of the resort it was very necessary to do so. Not only are they easy to jump on, the distances are large and they help you to work out routes for later in your holiday. They run from 7am til after midnight and given the size of the resort are very necessary. You can still exercise in many other ways. which was our concern.

To summarize, the resort is beautiful. It is evident that there is an ethos of excellent service embedded in the staff, who are led by a very good management team, Felix is a star, he oversees guest requests and is very visible within the hotel. We happened to meet him one day and he was very keen to receive feedback and honest enough to suggest visiting various places independently rather than buying expensive tours from the reps or the hotel. ( I will review external sites/towns like Coba, Chichen Iza, Tulum, Playa del Carmen seperately). Thank you so much, Felix. All staff smile and speak in a friendly manner. Remember, this is Mexico so try to learn and speak some Spanish. It shows respect and they appreciate your attempts at their language.

Go with an open mind, friendly smile and a warm heart. You will love it and have many wonderful memories.
