Hotel Hacienda Uxmal Plantation & Museum

A good looking hotel and different from the norm.

Located just a short walk from the Mayan site of Uxmal it is superbly located for the Sound and Light show at night and then a daytime visit to this gem of a site.

The rooms are of a good hacienda style with a good en-suite. The pool area was great for a cooling dip.

Their is obvious on-going renovation work that does not impact on your visit and shows the hotels intent.

The Hotel Hacienda Uxmal is so luxurious that I felt pampered from the moment I arrived. The rooms are beautiful, with all of the amenities you would expect from a 5* hotel. The bathroom is large with a deep oval tub. Fresh flowers add a special touch. The property is lovely and dates from the 1600's. Queen ELizabeth, Jacqueline Kennedy and her children, and many members of royalty have stayed here. There is even free wifi. An excellent restaurant serves delicious Yucatan food. I wish I could have stayed much longer! I just noticed that someone called this hotel "quite tired". I couldn't disagree more! This is a beautiful, reasonable hotel!

On behalf of all of us at the Hacienda Uxmal, thank you for such a wonderful, thorough review!

This venerable, 338 year old family property is undergoing a series of enhancements to it's original
building, soon to be a museum. The surrounding grounds are enriching the beauty of the hotel, located about a half a mile south of the old hacienda. We have planted over 16,000 trees and continue to do so. Next time you come, we'll love to show you all we are doing so yes.... you are absolutely right ! Hacienda Uxmal is indeed, as per you title, "more than just a hotel !"

Thank you so much for sharing your experience!

Stayed 1 night at Hotel Hacienda Uxmal as it was adjacent to the ruins. One one hand I was blown away by it's rich history, location and the famous people that stayed there in the past. It was like treading on sacred ground ....... On the other hand, the place has a certain charm BUT is / looks quite tired. Room A/C was VERY noisy, so was the ceiling fan. We thought that it was going to fall off the ceiling. Rooms were clean but very tired, bed was less than mediocre. Restaurant was adequate albeit ... expensive !! There is a stocked fridge in the room but beware of the prices for drinks !!!
I suggest bring your own beer or wine and just keep it in the fridge or you will get reamed !!

I suppose that being where they are ( off the beaten path ) that's the only game in town !
Knowing and despite what I know now, I would stay there again if I was visiting the ruins.

Of note ..... the light show at the ruins was NOT worth the effort, and that's the only reason that we stayed overnight at this hotel. Our guide Enrique was fantastic, a very cultured and educated man. The guide should not cost more than 350 P. so negotiate beforehand.

Thank you for your comment! I am surprised about you not liking the bed... ALL the beds in the hotel are BRAND NEW. They were installed a couple of weeks before your visit. We are constantly upgrading all our rooms! You are right about the A/C unit... they are noisy and we are replacing the units this spring. Thanks again! Safe travels.

Great rooms (although not the cleanest), great gardens, peaceful setting. There was a frog in my room! (Supposed to be a symbol of good-luck i guess... but didn't feel that way the instant i spotted him!) Friendly service.

Arriving at this hotel, unique, silent and just across the road from a worthy competitor of Chichen Itza, we were sure that our two nights at this hotel were going to be excellent. And sure enough, we were given a good room but we noticed later in the evening that there was a slight crack which lead to the possibility of creatures crawling through during the night. After speaking to the receptionist, the director was more than happy in changing our room and he gave us a wonderful room overlooking the swimming pool.
I can only say thank you to the director and all of the staff who are always willing to make sure that we always feel as if we are on cloud 9. Everybody and everything was great and I can only recommend this lovely hotel to anyone who is in search of tranquility, meditation and a harmonious feeling of serenity.

Nice, big and clean rooms, nice staff, great outside pool, quite and relaxing, good food in the restaurant (but quite expencive for the Mexican standards). We intended to take much more cheaper accomodation at Rancherito Uxmal. This place was closed and the only option was Hacienda Uxmal. After the first offer for 1200 pesos/room/night they gave us a nice discount and we ended on the 600 pesos/room/night (som 50 usd) for the room which looked just like that for 1200 pesos :).

Room Tip: All rooms are ok. The superrior room from 1200 pesos looked EXACTLY the same as the non-superior one...

The hotel is very beatiful. Every corners are so elegant. At the reception there are photos of kings, queens, statemen etc who stayed in this hotel which created great first impression. the room is very large, elegant and very comfortable. The bathroom is very big and a bit old but very elegant. We are lucky that we have chance to stay in a place like that. The restuarant is very good.
