Went for a friends birthday, delicious food, large portions and lots of vegetarian options.

The staff were so friendly and really helped make the night

Patronised following the recent renovation.
We booked a week in advance and were, initially, accorded a table right next to the loos and facing the (heat of the) kitchen. This would have been acceptable if we had come in on the off-chance so not a great start. Spoke to a waitress and we were offered the only other free table, right by the entrance. It was cooler (good) but one of our group (of 4) had to constantly interrupt his meal to close the door to stop the draft (not good). Stronger hinge closures - as on fire doors - would have prevented this.
We were brought beers we had not ordered but had them anyway. Our waiter failed to see our line of humour ‘those will on the house then?’ We ordered a bottle of wine at this stage. The waiter then took our meal orders but no wine materialised. Still no wine came by the time our meals arrived. This is not how it should be in any restaurant...and an apology & gesture should have been made – we received neither. The food was properly cooked and ok but could have packed a bit more punch. Discourse was difficult owing the sound bouncing off the walls and hard floor; we had to shout to be heard.
This is not how I remember my first encounter some months back. The owners have put in more covers but they are tightly packed. It was very busy on the evening we visited so you could argue it is a roaring success from a business perspective. My own view is it is more to do with a loyal native following. If so, and if this is increasing profits, who am I to argue. Each to their own and I can only relate my own experience which is that I prefer to have some space around me and be able to hold a conversation with my fellow guests without having to bellow at them – and for the wine to be brought on time!

The village mangal in Amersham has long since been a favourite and we decidied to get them angel special as a takeout, this was freshly cooked as always and to the usual high standards.
The reason for this piece is if you haven’t visited in a couple of months or so, you may not know that they have refurbished the place adding additional tables, this without compromising on the space available.

This restaurant has been a firm favourite of ours for the last two years, the amazing food , really good prices, and the buzzy atmosphere had us returning every month after our first chance visit. The food has always exceeded our expectations time after time, the freshness and incredible flavours is what made this our favourite local eatery. This summer we were so disappointed to hear they would be closed for a lengthy period whilst they refurbished the restaurant, the other local restaurants we visited during the summer months just didn’t come close to the offerings at the Village Mangal!

So as you can imagine, we were really keen to return to our favourite eatery the moment they reopened - we are pleased to report that their food is as fabulous as ever, delicious, 10/10! Unfortunately with the refurbishment they’ve done away with the rustic interiors, the tables are much closer together, the lighting is incredibly bright, and it’s now all simple wipe clean tables, chairs and floors, overall it’s become more of a cafe style eatery rather than a comfy atmospheric family style restaurant. We will still return to the Village Mangal now and again as the food is so fabulous, but we just feel they missed a real opportunity to make their interiors and the actual dining experience as great as their food. Food 5/5 - Interiors 2/5
