5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2012

We have been to the Donington manor a few times now, we even got married there...
The staff cannot do enough for you, especially Ellie with our wedding arrangements!
Beautiful rooms, wonderful food, superb staff - thank you :)

We stayed at this hotel on a 2 night KGB deal with breakfast and a bottle of wine. On arrival the welcome was a warm friendly one. The staff thoughout the stay were friendly and helpful. We were guided to our double room. The room we had was large with a good bed and comfortable. The only 2 minor critisms of the room was that the decor was a bit dated and the only mirror in the room was in the bathroom, Don't let these minor points put you off of this hotel as we did enjoy our stay.

The rest of the hotel was of the same theme apart from the small cosy restaurant. The restaurant was very well done with good service. As for the meals; these were fine dining but reasonable portions so you didn't leave hungry. The meals themselves were amazing in taste & presentation. Well woth eating then and not very expensive for what you get.

It was the additional touches that helped make this hotel. You found nice rustic cookies in the room each day. In the hallway there was a basket full of free items in case you forgot to pack them (I.e. Shaver, Sewing repair kit, toothbrush, etc..).

Although hotel is close to East Midalands airport do not worry as in a small village and you do not get disturbed by any noise. Great if you want to stay before flying as only 5min drive from the terminal.

Overall the hotel is good with warm friendly staff, amazing food, small good touches but could do with a bit of modernisation to the decor.

Hope this of help to anyone thinking of staying there.

Room Tip: Rooms to back of hotel have better view onto landcaped garden.

This was our 3rd stay at Donington Manor for my husbands Xmas Party. Small hotel with Bar and lounge area. Rooms are all via stairs as far as I know so don't think would be suitable for the less able bodied. It has been converted and has quite a lot of character and some rooms are accessed via a fair few stairs. Apparently the rooms do vary quite considerably but we have been very lucky and had excellent rooms each stay. They are really unique in style and character and have all been very spacious and well kept. Our last one had a bathroom nearly the same size as the bedroom, and bedroom huge with king size bed, flat screen tv, sitting room chairs and fireplace. We left the children at home and not sure it is very family friendly, can't say I have seen anything aimed at children. Breakfast was nice too.. full english, cereals and pastries on offer. Overall a very nice hotel.

Had a very nice Sunday lunch with the family, very nice food reasonably priced for a 3 course set meal. The service was friendly and welcoming, there was baby and 4 year old child in our party, the children’s menu was OK usual suspects chips and beans, chicken nuggets etc, due to the standard of the restaurant and food, It would have been a benefit if the children’s menu was more fitting. Donington Manor is a proper restaurant for the family, no ball pit in sight, the decor is excellent, and I feel the dress code should be smart casual.

I booked this hotel as a colleague recommended staying somewhere with more options (in a village, with different restaurants etc.) than the nearby Holiday Inn Sherwood Park hotel. The room cost was £69 B&B compared with a corporate rate of £75 at the Holiday Inn and I really regret not having paid the extra 6 quid.
The staff are very nice if a little over the top. The room I had was in the old part of the hotel up and down stairs in hallways that got steadily drearier the further back into the hotel (and what felt like in time) I travelled. The room itself was huge with a huge bed. It was really cold outside so the heat emanating from the radiators was very welcome. The room decor was once again dated and the bathroom was cold and uninviting and looked like it had had a makeover sometime in 1985. The carpets were faded and worn and the ceiling scorched over the wall lights like they had once been lit by gas/oil.
The biggest disappointment though was the food. I opted for the casual setting of the bar and ordered a gourmet burger as it was getting on for 8pm and I figured this would be a quick bite. The food took an hour and ten minutes to arrive and when I queried its whereabouts after an hour, the girl let the cat out of the bag and announced that the restaurant was served first. When I asked if orders were not processed in the sequence the kitchen received them, she realised her mistake and tried a weak explanation. The food eventually arrived and halfway through, I almost broke several teeth on a large fragment of bone (dry wretch) in the burger. It was well handled by the staff who apologised and took the food off the bill.
All in all, not a great experience. Plus, and this is one of my biggest issues as a regular traveller, for £69 a night, I expect a bottle of water in my room?

Room Tip: If there is a new part in this hotel, ask for a room there.

We stayed for a family party and were well looked after from start to finish. The staff were fantastic if a little hard-pressed behind the bar when we all arrived at the start of the evening. Quirky old room with nooks and crannies - perfect. Great food and service at the banquet. I'd invest in some solid bedroom doors and spend a bit more on the buffet breakfast - but I'm looking for things to improve.

The room was ready when we arrived after the church wedding. We had asked for a quiet room and it was just right. Although we were on the first floor our room opened onto a balcony that led onto a garden. The room was very comfy and spacious. the bathroom was large with a larger than usual shower. A downside here was there was only one small bar of soap for the two of us, one small shampoo and no shower gel.The reception was very good and the food was excelent. The staff through out the hotel were friendly and efficient. The breakfast was freshly cooked and plenty of choice. The special wedding rate was good value for money. One negative is that there are lots of stairs.
