“Amazing week in a stunning cottage”
Reviewed May 18, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

This beautiful cottage is exactly as advertised. The owners really have thought of everything, right down to the location of the bird feeders which continued to entertain us throughout our holiday. We arrived to find an immaculately clean and extremely well equipped cottage which felt more like home than a rented holiday home. The cottage holds an elevated position offering stunning views of the local countryside. It was amazing to be able to wake hearing and seeing the birds feeding and singing from the master bedroom. The horses were also very entertaining which again you could clearly see from all front aspects of the cottage. The owners are on hand in case of emergency but unintrusive. It was great to meet Adelle at the end of our holiday and to be able to give her our feedback personally, it was so very clear, while speaking to her, how passionate they are about offering an exceptional service. Well Adelle & Charles you should rest easy, we absolutely love your stunning cottage and will definately be booking for next year. Beautiful Cottage, imacculately clean, very well equipped amazing location and delicious local fish and chips. What more can we say?

“Perfect Getaway”

A superb break was had in Swift Cottage. The cottage was very thoughtfully catered for and was warm and cosy. Most evenings we lit the fire and the views were lovely. The bathroom was lovely and warm with it under floor heating, plenty of hot water and we found the beds extremely comfortable especially after a long day walking. All amenities were catered for and it was nice to know we could contact the owners should we have any issues although we had none.It was made even better that we could take the dog as wouldn't have gone without him. We have stayed at a few cottages in the Peak District and this one was by far one of the best.

“Quaint Cosy Cottage with Lovely View But .....”
Reviewed January 7, 2015 for a stay in December 2014

We stayed at Swift Cottage over the Christmas period, on arrival it had nice little touches like a small Christmas tree, decorations and a pack of welcome goodies including champagne, mince pies, biscuits etc.

The cottage itself is in a lovely location with fantastic views from the front windows, it has a cosy log burner and a very comfortable settee if your after relaxing which we were. Fairly well equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washer and the tumble dryer was a bonus as we were there for a 10 day walking holiday and going on elsewhere afterwards so made good use of the facilities which also came with washing tablets and fabric softener which is a nice touch and you don't often get in rentals.

I personally think the cottage would struggle to house 5 people comfortably for any length of time as the 3rd bedroom is extremely small and it would be quite crowded in the dining and sitting areas if you were indoors for any length of time. Prior to visiting swift cottage we were hopeful that we would like it so much that we would return in the summer for a fortnight complete with step daughter and parents but there were a few things we weren't overly happy with and we wont be returning.

The negative points for us were, mainly the bed, some reviews have said the bed was extremely comfortable and if your into very soft mattresses with no support then you will be in heaven unfortunately if you prefer a firm mattress or have a back problem like me then it wont be comfortable at all, minor detail for some but huge if you do suffer with your back. We also had a problem with the utensils and equipment in the kitchen, as I stated we were stopping over Xmas so we were going to be doing cooking especially Xmas Day, there is no potato masher (a minor complaint but I would expect any kitchen to have one), the potato peeler was totally inadequate, didn't work at all might as well be thrown out, some of the crockery couldn't be put in the microwave which wouldn't have been that bad had there been suitable alternative soup/desert bowls that you could heat things like porridge up but there wasn't, we also found that some of the crockery felt dirty as if it hadn't been washed properly in the dishwasher which may be down to the instructions left by the owners to wash at a low temperature and the fault of the previous people who had rented the cottage but when you reach for a wine glass and there are the remnants of red wine in the bottom or a dinner plate that feels gritty and dirty its not great.

I realise that most of the reviews of this cottage are 5 star and mine seems to buck the trend and this may be down to the fact we have stopped in a cottage we go to a lot which is superior to all others we have stopped in so have a fairly high bench mark and overall this is a very nice, characterful, quaint, cosy cottage in a good location but just wasn't our perfect place.

Thank you for your review and I’m glad that overall you and your husband had an enjoyable stay. This was an extended break for 10 nights over the Christmas period at a discounted rate. I’m sorry to hear of all the negative points that you mention - however minor they might have been.

The accommodation does in fact sleep up to 5 people comfortably, albeit being a “cottage” as opposed to a larger “house”. It is priced accordingly. Over New Year we had two couples with a child and two babies in cots staying. They had no complaints on the comfort of the cottage and their 5 star review precedes your one.
The beds have high quality mattresses of medium firmness (I would not rate them “very soft”) which seem to please most people. I have slept in them and found them very comfortable, as do the vast majority of our guests. Perhaps, in view of your back problem, you might have checked before making an extended booking whether the mattress was suitable?

Thank you for drawing to my attention the missing potato masher and the inadequate potato peeler. Unfortunately, in a holiday rental utensils sometimes do go amiss and become worn over time. I will ensure both a potato masher and new peeler are provided ready for our next guests.

There is a note advising guests not to use the “blue and white crockery” in the microwave as experience has shown that it will crack (despite being marked as suitable for such use). We do, however, supply a full set of microwaveable white crockery, including 5 soup/dessert bowls. I am surprised you missed them.
The instructions regarding use of the dishwasher state “the Low setting is usually sufficient”. If dishes are dirtier than usual, I would expect guests to use their common sense and employ a higher setting, and to ensure that any crockery and glasses used are left clean for the next occupants. Unfortunately during the limited time allowed for a changeover it’s not always possible to check every single plate, glass, piece of cutlery or kitchen utensil to ensure they “feel” clean.

I take a great deal of pride in the cottage and make every effort to ensure guests enjoy their stay. It’s very disappointing to receive such a 3 star review, particularly given the “nit-picking” nature of the faults you highlight and the fact that most of them could have been rectified at the time. Before your arrival I provided you with contact numbers and encouraged you to use them should you require any assistance. Had you acted accordingly, I would then have drawn your attention to the full set of microwaveable crockery supplied and replaced the potato masher and peeler, and substituted the wine glass with a new one.

Unfortunately, there are people who will look for - and find - fault in almost anything. When they come across a dirty glass, rather than simply inform the owner at the time, why not broadcast the fact to the world after the event via a poor TripAdvisor review? It’s very sad you felt compelled to act in this way, and I hope in future when small things aren’t quite as you’d like them to be with accommodation you’ll have the courage and decency to let the owner know personally so that they can be addressed, rather than resorting to a damning review when it’s too late to do anything about them.

I’m sorry Swift Cottage wasn’t the “perfect place” for you. It is for many of our guests - several of whom return year on year!

“Fab cottage to see in the new year!”

We stayed here on a short stay for four nights to see in the New Year with friends and our small children. The cottage is really lovely and not a single thing has been overlooked - the attention to detail for a holiday let is impressive. We were delighted with the fantastic welcome pack which included everything from bread, milk and chocolate to something sparkling to help us see in the new year! Tideswell is a lovely village and the view from the kitchen sink was picturesque - especially in the snow! This is a charming but cosy cottage, our party of 7 filled it amply! It is a perfect place if you looking for a getaway with good friends/family in a fab spot in the Peak District. As an aside, Charles, who I booked with, was a pleasure to deal with through the booking process and was really helpful with travel cots, high chairs and all the other kid friendly stuff we could need!

Thank you for your fantastic review - I'm delighted you all enjoyed your stay! It was a pleasure dealing with you and thank you particularly for taking the trouble to leave the cottage clean and tidy after your New Year break with a large party (4 adults, 1 child and 2 babies). I hope perhaps you will make a return visit sometime in the future.

“Delightful cottage, thoughtfully equipped, tastefully furnished, great location”

We caught the final week of a Peak District Indian summe, so our lovely holiday was rather magical in such warm weather - the rain arrived on the day we left!
The whole process from booking to return of deposit post-holiday worked really efficiently and questions were promptly answered.

Tideswell is a great location for exploring in all directions and the village itself is charming and its shops enough to not need a 'big shop' in a Buxton supermarket. Swift Cottage is just as quaint as the photos suggest we were four adults and retriever and we were comfortable and cosy. The kitchen is pretty well-equipped and the whole cottage tastefully decorated. The bedlinen was lovely & crisp and the bathroom spotless. Off-road parking is an essential for us and was really convenient. Plenty of walks from the cottage so no need to use the car every day.

It felt like the owners were really bothered that we had a great holiday and enjoyed their lovely cottage and we all absolutely did!

“Beautiful cottage in an ideal spot with lovely views.”

We spent Xmas in Tideswell after searching the internet for the ideal location. We found it in Swift cottage. From the start of our enquiry to our return home Charles and Adelle were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage is set in a perfect spot with lovely views and only a short walk into Tideswell village. It is very well equipped and spotlessly clean and the bathroom is stunning with the an amazing spa bath which was very relaxing after our long walks in the surrounding countryside. The beds were extremely comfortable so we all had a goods night sleep, even myself who struggles to sleep away from home. The couple who live next door were very friendly as were everyone we met in the village ( especially a large group of locals we met on boxing day in The Horse and Jockey who made us feel really welcome ).All in all we had a fabulous Xmas in Swift Cottage and hopefully will return. Thank you Charles and Adelle for making it a Xmas to remember!
