“This is a cottage you MUST experience! Truly wonderful”
Reviewed March 3, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

First class cottage, first class and generous hosts, first class furnishings and equipment, spotlessly clean and a wonderful location. The welcome gifts were a lovely surprise and very thoughtful on the part of the owners. We all thoroughly enjoyed our very relaxing and comfortable stay at the Old Barn. Thank you, we hope to return.

“Fantastic cosy cottage”
Reviewed February 2, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

What can I say! It was amazing from the word go. Very warm welcome from Sharon just after we got there; she told us everything we needed to know and where everything was. She had also left us a LOVELY cake, crisps and wine. Immaculate and clean cottage with everything you could need. Winster itself is a lovely village with 17th century buildings, a shop and two pubs, although we didn't get to try The Miners Standard as we liked The Old Bowling Green so much we had dinner there two nights running. Some great walks but make sure you wear your wellies :-)
Highly recommended will definitely be going back there soon!

“Cosy country getaway”
Reviewed January 24, 2014 for a stay in January 2014

The cottage is so homely and inviting, when we arrived Sharon had left home made lemon cake for us(delicious) along with a bottle of wine and crisps! It was so lovely to arrive and see that!

The location is great, loads of walks around the area and so many guides and books in the cottage to look through.

The spa bath was amazing, really relaxing weekend I would definately go again :)

It was really easy to book and we were emailed easy directions to get there.

Thank you for making it a great weekend!

“Super Stay”
Reviewed January 10, 2014 for a stay in October 2013

The Old Barn is situated in Winster, one of the most interesting villages in which we have ever stayed. The buildings are full of character and its great for walking. The Old Barn is a lovely property. Very well equipped and furnished. It was comfortable, warm and clean. We took our two teenage youngsters and our dog.. The owner of the Old Barn lives next door to the property and was friendly, but not intrusive. The had a couple of meals at the Miners Standard and used it as our local. It was amazingly friendly and great with the dog. Although the weather was not great, it didn't spoil our holiday and while we were there we visited Chatsworth and Bakewell. We would thoroughly recommend the Old Barn. One final comment, how's this for customer care, beside having a welcome pack of food including excellent home made cake, the proprietor discovered, after we had left, that out teenage daughter had left some clothes behind. The proprietor packaged up the clothes posted them to us and refused our offer to pay the postage. I'd call that service over and above what could be expected. Super Stay.

“Cosy, Home from Home”
Reviewed December 16, 2013 for a stay in December 2013

Just returned from a 3 day birthday break to this beautiful property. The old barn is truly a lovely place to stay. Set within the grounds of the owners own home the old barn is truly a home from home. There is nothing the owners have not thought of, games for children, dvds, books you name it is it here. Upon arrival we were met with a freshly baked cake, wine and crisps, together with fresh flowers and a cosy fire. The beds are so comfy and no expense is spared with the decor and furniture, I can honestly say this property is better furnished than my own home. No need to bring towels, or washing up liquid here, its all provided, down to a hairdryer and iron if required. The weather was not great (it is winter, so should of expected it), but to be honest I was more than happy spending time in the property. Its so cosy...
The top bedroom is wonderful with an ensuite bathroom together with a jacuzzi bath. The owner was helpful, friendly but not at all obstrisive, I didnt feel at all uneasy about being within there own grounds.
Winster is a traditional Derbyshire village, there is a good pub in the village and a village shop that sold everything you need, however Matlock is only a 10 minute drive away for more shops and amenities. There are some lovely walks on your doorstep, just a shame it was so wet the weekend we went.
I can honestly say there was nothing the owners could do to make this a better stay... they have nailed it already.
Thank you for making my birthday weekend away a memorable experience, and we cannot wait to return when the weather is better.
