“Cosy cottage in beautiful village”
Reviewed January 26, 2016 for a stay in January 2016

Rare scenario in which the photos of the cottage have undersold it - as one of the reviewers states below, the bathroom was stunning and luxurious, comfy 4 poster bed and although small, everything that you could need in the kitchen. Beautiful area with many walks from the door. Down to earth pubs with hearty home cooking. Really enjoyed our relaxing and peaceful stay.

“Escapism In The English Countryside”
Reviewed January 17, 2016 for a stay in October 2015

My Wife and I visited this cottage for a weekend getaway and it certainly lived up to it. The cottage was very cosy; my wife described it as a Beatrix Potter style cottage. For both nights of our stay we wanted to stay in rather than go out as it was so lovely just sitting by the inglenook fireplace. The cottage was well decorated and clean and gave us everything we needed. The kitchen was well compact, the four poster bed comfy and the bathroom was amazing. The cottage was also very well situated as it was close to both Chatsworth and Bakewell. We would definitely stay again and also reccommend to family and friends.

“Fantastic bedroom and bathroom!”
Reviewed September 3, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Really loved this cottage - a bit cramped downstairs but upstairs was lush! The bedroom is spacious and the bathroom is beautifully designed. Strong WiFi although no phone signal in the cottage. Access to a washing machine would have been beneficial! Winster is beautiful village - excellent walks and surrounding area. Very friendly people and lovely village shop. Did not want to leave. I have found the place I want to retire to! Thank you!

“A picture perfect and active weekend in the Peak District”
Reviewed August 12, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Briars Cottage in the village of Winster is the perfect place for two people to base themselves in the Peak District. During our four night stay in July 2015 my boyfriend and I visited the surrounding villages, the Chatsworth estate and undertook four beautiful walks with breath taking scenery. In particular, I would recommended the walk by Dovedale which finishes/starts by Thorpe's Cloud - challenging climb if you wish to take it!

The cottage has all the necessary amenities and if you feel like recovering from a long walk on the sofa - there is a TV and DVD player to hand. The upstairs has a large bedroom with a four poster bed and the bathroom has been finished to a very high specification with two shower heads to help relax your weary limbs after a long day exploring the surrounding countryside.

In terms of food, I recommend lunch or dinner at the local pub The Bowling Green which is a two minute amble down the road in the centre of the village. The village shop is well stocked and Matlock - a short 15 minute drive away - should suffice for all other necessities.

It is testament to how much we enjoyed our cosy cottage that we cooked for ourselves and ate in three nights out of four!

I would definitely return but next time with the foresight to bring a roadmap (lack of signal, so do not rely on sat nav) and a ONS map for our more advanced walks.

“A delightful little cottage in a perfect little village!”
Reviewed May 19, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

The location was perfect for walking to the village shop and pubs although the nearer pub is only open on weekends. Parking directly in front of the cottage was a bit too tight for our compact car, but the alternate space was very convenient and easy to access. The cottage had everything we needed although we were a bit concerned the first evening as it was chilly and the heat was set to come on at 7:30 AM. After the first evening, however, we were very comfortable. The tiny kitchen had everything we needed for preparing some of our meals. (The kitchen tap was a bit tricky.) The bedroom and bath were spacious and lovely. The shower was wonderful!

Liked best: Being in the midst of the village.
Liked least: The tricky kitchen tap. (I rated booking as only Average because I had to wire the payment from the US.)

“Idyllic Cottage! Idyllic Location! Idyllic Weekend”
Reviewed April 8, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We spent a wonderful weekend at Briar Cottage. Winster is a beautiful village and Briar Cottage is just perfect – beautifully appointed and it was so lovely to enter the lounge and have the fire already burning away – thanks Anne. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need. The bedroom is gorgeous, very romantic with the four poster bed and very comfortable too! The shower room is fantastic – it was like being in a Boutique Hotel and obviously a lot of thought has gone into the design of this room. We opted to go to the Red Lion at Hognaston on Saturday night and can highly recommend this pub. The food was great and it has a wonderful ambience. On the Sunday we had lunch at the Peacock at Rowsley. The food and service was excellent. The building itself is fabulous and the interior is just beautiful. All in all our weekend at Briar Cottage was delightful and we look forward to visiting again. Fiona Stewart

“Beautiful, cosy cottage in peaceful location”
Reviewed January 5, 2015 for a stay in January 2015

We had a fantastic weekend at Briar Cottage. The owners left the fire on for us so it was lovely and warm when we arrived. The whole place was immaculately clean and kept it's charm. The luxurious bathroom and four poster bed were highlights. Perfect for a romantic get away. Although it was very cold we had a fab days road cycling in the picturesque countryside on quiet roads. Would definitely consider a return visit once it warms up. Thanks Anne!
