“Great cottage and great village as a base for the Peak District”

An excellent place to stay for touring the Peak District. Youlgreave is a lovely picturesque village and is also a good base for walks. The cottage is quaint and cosy but with all facilities provided. The hosts Chris and Nagarita are very welcoming, helpful and genuine. Would strongly recommend.

“Excellent well equipt cottage, great location and very nice owners”
Reviewed April 11, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We stayed in Jasmine Cottage at the beginning of April and had a really lovely holiday. The cottage was excellent - comfortable, spacious and well-equipt. Nagarita and Chris, the owners, had left a lovely cake for us and there was tea, coffee, milk there too, which was a really nice touch (our dog also loved the dog bed!). The area is lovely, with great walks from the door. A very short walk to the village, which has 3 pubs, (serving good food) and a couple of food shops. We had a lovely time and hope to return soon. Have already recommended it to my friends and family!

“A wonderful week at Jasmine Cottage”
Reviewed July 17, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We had a wonderful week at Jasmine Cottage, walking in the hills and dales and relaxing in the garden.

The cottage itself is one of a small row of three, two are holiday lets and the owners live in the third, so are on hand should you happen to need anything. We had everything we needed though, and thought it very spacious for a cottage. It wasn't completely sure if there was a garden because of a comment in an earlier review - but there are in fact 3 lovely gardens to choose from, all with tables and chairs and away from the road so wonderfully peaceful to sit outside with a drink in the evening - we were very lucky to have warm sunshine every day!

The location in Youlgrave is great - great walks directly from the cottage, but close to the attractions of Buxton or Matlock, for example, if it's raining, and plenty of shops in Bakewell if you need groceries etc. Lots of local produce available from gardens in the village, especially free-range eggs from the chickens wandering around! And three pubs, two with good food.

Best thing about our visit was Nagarita's delicious cake waiting for us, and welcoming vase of fresh flowers. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a relaxing break in the Peak District.

“Fabulous doggie delight”

Just returned from a 4 night stay at the cottage, very relaxing and chilled stay. I chose this cottage as when I emailed the owner I stated our dog was a 4 month old puppy (who is fully house trained) and I was expecting a no, but was surprised to get a yes which was very surprising. Anyway we can't fault the cottage, perfect location and a very comfortable cottage, I have no complaints at all and loved the home baked cake and fresh flowers on arrival. Nagarita was lovely and extremely welcoming......would definitely recommend if you want to stay and just relax away from it all. The River Bradford which is on the doorstep was fabulous and could never get bored of this walk, our dog Burdock loved this place and he highly recommends the cottage and village.

“Best place for hillwalking and fishing in Peak District”
Reviewed December 2, 2013 for a stay in September 2013

I found this cottage at this site and contacted Margaret to check the availability. She was really flexible for us to reserve a period less than a week, though their normal unit of rental is a week. She provided us with information on Youlgreave and activities that would be done by us. Price was roughly average in this area. But finally I decided to choose this cottage due to her hearty and helpful behavior.
When we arrived at the cottage, the owner's son and his wife warmly welcomed us and ensured their assistance to make our stay so comfortable. When we entered the cottage, we found a fine cake and a lovely flower arrangement on a table. Good courtesy! Rooms were entirely clean. The kitchen was fully equipped, so that my wife could enjoy cooking by using of local produce.
Bakewell is about a quarter of an hour away from Youlgreave by car. If you need to buy anything, shops in the town would be good enough for your purpose. Furthermore, for dining out, you will be able to select from various restaurants in the town.
We loved hillwalking around the village, Youlgreave. Regarding fishing, I was satisfied with some rivers including River Dove on which Charles Cotton had built the Temple to invite Izaac Walton.
This is the best place for wlaking lovers and flyfishers. From my country (Japan), it takes quite long time to visit. But I do hope to come again here.

“Pretty cottage but needs a deep clean”
Reviewed November 6, 2012 for a stay in October 2012

Stayed with friends and a dog while we were exploring the Peak District. The cottage is in a quaint little village, very pretty. The price was pretty reasonable. There were fresh flowers and cake on arrival which was a nice touch.
However for me what spoilt it was the fact it needs a full deep clean. There were cobwebs everywhere and a dead moths on the windowsills, high level dusting needs attention and the sofa looked grubby. Under the bed in the master bedroom there was plenty of fluff and general dust. We struggled to work the central heating which seemed to have a mind of its own. The bathroom needs a blind at the window to preserve modesty, and the bath needed a good clean. The wi-fi didn't work and it is worth noting mobile phone reception is intermittent in the cottage.
I expect we arrived at the end of the season and the bare minimum has been done inbetween rentals over the summer period and this has now taken its toll and the cottage looks rather shabby. Sorry but I would not return or recommend due to this.

Management Response

I don’t understand why this review is so bad as all previous reviews both in our visitors book and on line have been very good .and many of our visitors return again and again. However we note the comments and assure all future visitors that cleanliness is of paramount importance to us and we will do all we can to make your stay a happy one.
The wifi does work but does need a key which is available on request .
The cottage is a warm one and so far we have always let visitors have personal access to the CH controls, which they have appreciated, but will always help them if they want help
