It was a clear day when we walked up the steps at the side of the White Horse and the view was fabulous. Drax Power Station was clearly visible on the horizon which by road is about 43 miles away. As other reviewers have said the steps up from the car park are pretty steep and the treads are narrow, so maybe not for the faint hearted! The glider club isn't situated next to the White Horse by accident - it is pretty windy up there, so woolly hats may be worthwhile (but not ones that can be blown off!)
Seeing the Horse close up is nothing special - it is best viewed from a distance, of course.
The visitor centre at Sutton Bank is Ok too but I wouldn't make a special journey to go there. For the price of the pay and display car park it is worth a visit if you are in the area. There was a small but good photographic exhibition on when we visited.
For those on a limited budget like ourselves, the White Horse, Sutton Bank and the visitor centre together represent a good way to spend an hour or two (or longer with a nice walk) for next to nothing.
