“Delightful cottage in fabulous location”

My husband and I stayed at Duck Cottage with our one year old son and couldn't fault it! The instructions we received from the cottage owner were thorough and getting into the cottage was so straightforward - fantastic.

The cottage is really charming - whilst small it has everything you could possibly need for your stay and a bit more! We were grateful for the cot and highchair as it saved us bringing our own. Our son loved playing with the train track that was in the cottage and we all enjoyed some of the board games.

The cottage is well located - seconds from the attractions of Thirsk. It was actually too near to local restaurants/ takeaways as it meant we ate out far too much! The views out the lounge/ bedroom windows of the ducks were really special - wish I could wake to that every day.

Overall we had a superb break and hope to return to Duck Cottage again very soon! The only thing that I would have liked would be wifi, although there was a good 4G signal so it wasn't a huge issue.

Fab cottage - I recommend it!

Management Response

Hi Laura. Thank you such an encouraging review. I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your comment about wifi. We have actually deliberately chosen not to have this as we wanted the cottage to be a peaceful refuge. However, maybe it is something that we need to consider as a number of people have suggested it.

As a female solo traveller I was looking for a cottage that was comfortable, modern, close to cafes and small shops and I felt safe in on my own. Duck cottage fitted my needs perfectly. It is situated in a great location literally a few steps from the cafes, shops and pubs of Thirsk but as it is facing a river with ducks and is set in a courtyard it feels special. The cottage is tastefully decorated with everything that you may need and feels very cosy and homely. The milk and wine left by the owners was a nice touch and went down a treat! The cottage is located centrally for many parts of Yorkshire, with Thirsk train station being just over 5 minutes drive away and York being a short train journey away. I would recommend the cottage for anybody looking for a relaxing holiday with great access to local amenities.

Duck Cottage is lovely & cosy & beautifully decorated & furnished throughout. It is situated in a lovely position and is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding areas. There are plenty of shops, tea rooms & places to eat out at night. We visited the James Herriott museum (which is two minutes away from the cottage). We were really pleased with the cottage and will definitely return in the future. Choose Duck cottage!

“A fantastic little cottage”

Duck Cottage was a great base for all our activities in North Yorkshire. The cottage isn't very big but it's cosy and has everything you need for a self-catering base of operations. Neighbours are friendly and all the local amenities are literally just round the corner, including Thirsk high street; pubs, the market when its on, local shops, take-away food and a large Tesco which we used a lot. The local ducks and the riverside location give the place loads of character too. Owners are lovely and helpful as well. We had a great holiday and we would highly recommend Duck cottage.

“Home away from home.”
Reviewed April 1, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

This was a lovely place to stay in while we were in North Yorkshire. We based ourselves in Thirsk and ventured out to many of the surrounding towns and villages.
duck cottage is clean, warm and comfortable. This was especially important while we were there as it was chilly outside.
Literally just around the corner is the town square with everything you could need in a village including pubs, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and the all important Info Centre.
Great place to base yourself in to explore North Yorkshire.
Only negative is there is no wifi and mobile phone reception is limited.

“Certainly got the WOW factor as you walk through the door.”

Beautifully converted and fitted out, every home comfort has been thought about. Love the decor! Little touches like welcome drinks, milk and wine, books, maps games etc. Great little town with lots to do, in a lovely area. We would love to return.
