Relaxing Experience

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 2, 2024
I recently stayed at Castle Inn for the second time and once again, I had a great experience.

The staff at the hotel were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. The room was clean, and well-appointed with amenities. I especially enjoyed the comfortable bed and view outside.

Will be back again.

Always a good experience coming here. Food and Staff are amazing and always willing to help. Sunday evenings are always quiet and they close the restaurant early so best to plan your dinner beforehand. They do opent he bar a bit longer so it’s nice to just sit and chill

Where shall I start?
Corridors very old, dusty and full of fake flowers everywhere throughout the hotel. Needs modernisation.
The worst part food and beverage
Paid £7.6 for a pint of Madri. Not even in London. Really expensive.
Ordered half chicken and came with literally running blood inside. Complained and they said they were trying different temperatures in the oven. They didn’t know I am a Head of Food Production for 12 restaurants. You don’t try anything with chicken chef. You cook and probe it and the core needs to be 75 degrees or more. That’s basic Food Safety but clearly does not exist here…
Shocking!!! They were also discussing if the dish should be offered. Of course it should be! They finally offered the dish and second time came good.
My chicken burger although had already better at a local chicken shop for half price.
There was a party at the salon and all employees including the manager believe named Mae were dancing instead of caring about customers.
For example the mens toilet was full of urine from 7.30pm to 10.45pm and they preferred to have a manager dancing with like 4 or 5 employees rather than cleaning it. Priorities…
On top of these issues, 3 times I was asked if I wanted to pay which I replied why are you almost forcing me to pay? I am not leaving, I have a room upstairs. Then a kid working as an employee said that they were closing early. Supposed to close at 11pm they said at 6pm when I arrived.
After this I discover the issue with the payments was that they wanted to be free of any customers to go all to the salon to dance with the manager and even left the pub unattended for some time which I never saw this in my life.
Honestly the poorest management I have seen in some time….
Not even going to mention the horrible full english I had in the morning…
Only good part was that rooms were not bad, quite clean and organised with all goods needed
Avoid at all cost!!!

Pro
Decent size room and en suite, simple dinner menu , great inclusive breakfast, good price and location.
Cons
Walls a bit thin on top floor could hear people in next room on the phone both at midnight and 8am and on the stairs behind my head.
Small car park which was full - use the public one opposite

Bad experience:
Room was adequate however a sliding door into the bathroom activated the light and extractor fan which droned on for 8 Minutes after use and because the light is connected with no manual switch, visits during the night flooded the bedroom in bright light.
Restaurant: Breakfast was good in general however the sausage was still raw in the centre.
We booked a table in the restaurant on the Saturday and were the first in. The prawn cocktail starter consisted of freshly thawed prawns that had not been drained properly and sauce was in short supply, one lettuce leaf uncut. And bread which was neither toasted nor "raw", Mains were Cod and chips with garden peas, the cod was encased in batter which had quite obviously been Deep fried twice, turning the batter a darker shade of brown nearing black and dripping in oil which appeared to be "old". The chips had been fried more than once, probably two or Three times, where hard and knife resistant, the peas very small and dried out. The other main was a "gourmet" cheeseburger , fries and onion rings. The burger contents were welded together, the bun extremely hard and inedible. The Three onion rings where "well done".
This was our second visit to the venue this year, the first in January, on both occasions the staff where attentive polite and profesional, they where sorely let down by the catering standards. We will not be repeating the experience.

The room we had was quite small, but big enough for two people. It was also extremely clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also very clean and the shower very good. The room had a good supply of tea/coffee/sugar etc, and also had a hair dryer and iron and ironing board. The iron, however, did not work and the staff were unable to supply one that did, which was a little inconvenient. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful, but I cannot comment on other meals as we did not eat in the restaurant. The bar prices were quite steep, although it may be that we were comparing them to our local pubs. I would absolutely stay here again and can recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a good value stay in a lovely, picturesque village.
