We were referred to La Vista by some friends who live nearby and were absolutely stunned when we drove up the hill. Such a unique place -- a little bit hunting cabin, a little bit luxury hotel. A perfect combination for us. We were able to wake in the morning in our deluxe-comfortable bed, enjoy the five-star view of the tops of the rainforest trees slowly being touched by the morning sun, listen to the birds in the trees outside our window, then descend to the open air kitchen to brew coffee on the gas stove. Perfect location for a visit to the Daintree. Perfect for us. Perfect view. In fact, you may love the sight of the Daintree from La Vista that you just skip exploring!
Writing a review for La Vista is difficult because it is a hard place to accurately describe. Our group(husband, wife, adult daughter and partner), felt that the numerous online photographs just did not do the place justice. they gave it a "flat" or one dimensional feel and La Vista is anything but one dimensional. Bottom line is that of all the places we have rented in the last several years, this is our favorite.
Located on the side of a steep hill, with the lot cut out of thick, lush rain forest, the location is incredible. Access by private driveway gives it a feeling of privacy and it is extremely quiet. occasionally, you will hear a car or truck on the road below, but that is the only indication that civilization is anywhere close. The 180+ degree views of the valley out to the ocean are absolutely stunning, At night we could see only one other set of lights and those were several miles away. Yet in spite of this the Cow Bay Pub and the main road were less than a kilometer away. The Daintree area is relatively small, and while you'll need a car to get around, at La Vista you are not that far away from any of the main attractions.
Being from a colder, non tropical part of the world we were a bit skeptical of an outdoor kitchen and dinning area, but that fear was totally unwarranted. The kitchen was well equipped and fully functional, and we cooked most of our meals during the we that we were there. (food shopping options are limited in the Daintree, so do your shopping before crossing the Daintree River)
The rest of the facility was clean and as well equipped as the kitchen with no surprises. "Off the grid" water and electrical systems can be a bit of a challenge, but we had zero problems during our stay leading us to believe that there was a lot of blood, sweat, tears and a pile of cash invested in this one.
Dean, the owner was easy to deal with and always responded promptly to our communications, whether by email or by cell phone once we were on the ground in Queensland. Check in/Check out was both fast and simple.
We loved this place and would return in a heartbeat. We recommend this place without reservation.
