“Personalized tour and knowledgeable guide”
Review of Penguin Centre

Penguin Centre
Reviewed February 4, 2018 via mobile

In contrast to what many people are saying, we managed to see penguins in Granite Island in this tour. Couple with a very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide (Steve) who has such remarkable passion and interest as a Citizen Scientist for these amazing little creatures, it was one of the nights I'll remember for a long time in my solo trip to the Fleurieu Peninsula.

I felt I learned so much from the explanations by Steve with regards to the natural life cycle and behaviour of the penguins. Being a small tour group last night, he managed to entertain our individual questions and curiosities, thereby making the tour even more personalized and special.

I'm impressed how tenacious and passionate Steve is in protecting and correcting the misconceptions at Granite Island. Sightings of penguins are dependent on many factors such as time of day, season of the year, and their life cycle, all of which were explained thoroughly in the tour.

Highly recommend this tour to anyone.

There is an evening ( supervised ) visit to see the penguins and the area where they nest and fish - it was very interesting.

My daughters and I saw the cutest Penguins and gained insights into their lives under the expert guidance of Steve. These creatures and their accessibility in one of South Australia’s prime tourist spots needs to be treasured. Steve and people like him are holding together what should be managed at a local and state government level to ensure these resilient but vulnerable animals are there for the future. Thee creatures are amazing, we saw them return form the ocean to feed their babies. They have to waddle across a walkway where people walk to the jetty to fish. The penguins are scared by people and their phone lights. The only access should be under supervision of those who know and care for these amazing penguins otherwise we won’t have them any more.
