Stayed there for 1 night with family. Location is good, right next to parking lot but it also becomes a bottleneck as no clear direction/sign boards available. You will never know where you should stop and park you vehicle. If you ask anyone they all push you deep inside parking lot as they don't want vehicle to stop on main road to avoid jams. secondly there is no dedicated parking for resort. Its all common parking where you need to find a suitable slot (such a mess).
Rooms - I booked Shurti villa (the best one they have). Its a decent room but not worth 4.5k. You will get a walking closet and huge bathroom. Bed linen were smelling.

Biggest challenge was enormous number of power cuts. I had my 9 month old son impacted the most. Night time there was no electricity. I had to walk down to reception twice asking them to turn on generator. It usually takes 30 mins for them to turn genset (first they would like to wait 15-20 mins to check in if electricity be back, if not, they have to go down somewhere to turn it on.)
Also, as it was raining heavily, the tin shed was making hell lot of noise acted as another spoiler to our sleep.

Food - like every other post says 'costly', yes it is. but I expect such rates at places like this. Food taste was good but they had limited choices in breakfast.

Overall this place is OK but has its own challenges. Better be careful and set expectation properly before making any booking.

Room Tip: super delu

Well, since Matheran town does not have anything major to do, this MTDC resort seems to be the only place where you will pass your most of the time on the stay. We stayed in the SHRUTI VILLA rooms which are bigger and closer to the reception and the restaurant, but near to the Matheran entrance which causes a lot of noise till about 8pm in the night and start again at 7am in the morning. These rooms seem to be built by the British and these are quite spacious - I would say more of extravagant in terms of the space, and are much better than the other rooms. The restaurant is just outside these rooms, while if you stay in other category rooms, you are staying in another part of the resort which is around 5 mins walk through a internal road which is habitated by horses during the day.
All in all, nothing to be boasted about in this resort, simple and straightforward facilities, all what you would need during your stay! But they charge too much for these basic facilities, but I would still say that this is the best available at this price point and location in Matheran. The resort is located just at the entrance of Matheran which makes it easier to carry your luggage yourself to the resort rather than bargain wih porters to carry them to your resort which might be closer to the market area around 2-3kms away.
There is no network in this resort, and you can only watch TV which is available.

I visited matheran with a great expectation with mtdc.... but... Matheran is good but not the MTDC.
Reasons.
The rooms are far from the reception area. No intercom facility. For small to big all problems you need to walk about 15 mins.
They charge 200 rs as deposit and next day again you need to run to collect money from reception... just waste your precious 30 mins to get your own money.
Room boy even not even have courtsy to lift your bag, however he is more interested to tell that he may arrange hourse at discounted rate.

Positive side:
1. Rooms are specious however you will not get any view except lots of trees all around.
2. Rooms are clean however linen are smelly.
3. For a day they are giving two small soap and towel... no shampoo and other toiletries
4. No room service on weekends.
5. No children play area.

we visited MTDC Matheran in June 2017. Deluxe room is awesome.room have veranda facing so called valley but it gives view of mini train (now it runs for testing purpose only-maintenance work going on). room is little small but cozy and has separate changing area with good size toilet. All interiors of room is nice with wooden polished English traditional furniture. Lighting fixtures, yellow light, wall clock, wall frames, outdoor furniture ,wooden ceiling with truss all based on one concept. It gives soothing feeling.
Drawback is this resort is divided in 2 part. one is reception, dinning, kitchen and some rooms which is just near to ticket counter for entering Matheran. Majority of rooms are on other side of road which goes up to Matheran. So we had to walk a lot in muddy road because of very heavy rain on that weekend. And as other MTDC have their own parking, here we had to park in forest only. there is no separate parking at MTDC.
Inside MTDC pathways are properly paved. everything is clean with lots of trees.Service was good considering distance between kitchen and deluxe room. Because of heavy rains there was problem of electricity. .Over all good experience. We stayed at MTDC only instead of going up to Matheran because of rains. This was a really relaxed weekend at Matheran.

Room Tip: deluxe rooms are nice and have view of mini train.

Unfortunately, it was rainy season in which i had visited.I had booked mtdc for 2 days but due to poor facilities,I had to leave within 1 day of my visit.Mtdc location is quite good just near parking. Though location is good but it is far from market so u would have to hire horses or pull rickshaw to roam around which cost a lot.I had booked super deluxe room for my stay. The room was fine wrt size but there were no phone to contact reception, unfunctional mosquito mat, insects in room,AC was making sound,no light most of time and room was very far from reception. I had reached room after roaming in evening at 9pm in heavy rain and wanted water to drink but as phone was not working and also no one was around to get ,it became difficult to survive. The food of mtdc is below average.overall I would not suggest .
