Four of us decided for a short trip to Barapani in May. We were looking for a quite place without many tourists. I came across Cafe Umbir at Tripadvisor. After visiting their FB page found their number. The person gave a proper description of the place and suggested we take the cottage for 4 people. Once we reached, we met Mr Sanma. He is the caretaker cum cook. The cottage was clean and nice. Although not very big. There was one king size bed and a sofa cum bed with 2 extra dunlops. So sleeping was not a problem for 4 people. But the cottage didn't have room service. So we carried our food and water from the restaurant which was little far. We ordered pork and Sanma suggested roast pork. It was Amazing. Overall experience was satisfactory. The surrounding areas are peaceful. The place has more greenery than people although it is situated in the Umbir village. Looking forward to stay in the tents next time. Price could have been little less though.

Room tip: If you are a group take the bigger independent cottage. They have a small room for 2 people. Tents are good too.

When I first visited this place, it was a small restaurant in top of a small hill facing the Umiam (Barapani) Lake in Meghalaya. In Jan 2016, they turned it into a resort, a very quiet place for the travellers. The main guy Sangma makes awesome pork and makes it very comfortable for the people who like staying in the tents. A nice place to visit. Just 80 kms from Guwahati and 20 kms from Shillong.

Room tip: Tents are great. Although if you are a group of more than 3 people, choose the cottages. The cottages come with an extra living room.
