“Wonder lake & Dolphins”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2012

Any visitor to puri must include a day trip to chilka lake. A 45 min drive from Puri takes you to sipakuda in east chilkha from where the boat trip starts. The earlier starting point of satpada is not currently operational because of some local tension. it is ideal to start early from puri to time to reach chilka by 9 am. you have to book the boating with Rs 1200 for 2.5 hrs and 1400 for 3.5 hrs. The 3.5 hr ride includes stop over at Rajhans..please ask before hand if it is open and even if open it is not worth it and can be excluded. the boat is comfortable for 4 adults and 2 children. the reason to start early is that u can view the dolphins before the crowd sets in. Preferable to carry water and something to eat though there are stopovers. We had been warned that the locals try to pass on worthless pearls to unsuspecting tourists..so beware...the rides ends with a view of the mouth of the lake to the sea.. if u do want lunch on disembarking then there is a hotel sea mouth where u have to pre-book your lunch before boarding..not very clean place but food was not so bad...regarding the sights u see lots of birds fishing..the dolphins are the high point..overall a relaxing experience...

“Largest Migratory Birds Sanctuary”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2012

It's massive spread lake which attracts birds from Europe and Asian continents. Wonderful place for serene feeling and enjoying nature at the best. The sea mouth is 68 kms by boat from the stay place. The place can be reached by road from Bhubaneswar (about 100 Kms, takes 2 hours). Public transport is limited, hence need to hire a car. Could cost around USD 40 to 50 based on the demand.

“good option for dolphins.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2012

the lake is very nice but dont forget to carry ur own food & water coz the options there are worst. the walk on the deserted island is serene with the lake on one side while the ocean on the other. but dont go in the evening coz there is no inhabitant & temporary food sellers vanish by late afternoon.

“Serene an beautiful (Only in Migration Seasons)”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2012

If ur a bird lover or wildlife photographer, chances are that the Chilika Lake will mesmerise u. It is the abode to one of the biggest stopovers of migratory birds. There are a nos of Islands scattered over the place with some good resorts. Boats are the only way of commuting between the lakes. The Boat rides are a costly affair and u shud be prepared beforehand to shell out the extra money. There are a few beautiful temple scattered over which addss to the beauty of the place.
