Review of Chilika Lake

Chilika Lake

This place is just out of the world. Probably the largest lake in the Northern hemisphere, best visited in the months from November to February. We visited in March, but the beauty of the lake was no less, except for the absence of a variety of birds, we will go back soon during the winter months to meet the winged beauties. Sunrise on this lake is blissful, one feels the divine touch and being at the lake during dawn makes you feel so close to the Lord Almighty - through his creation of such magnificent splendor. A boat ride to the Kalijai Temple is a must, Gulls keep you company and add to the natural beauty of this lake.

Take a long boat ride which is and see the various islands and enjoy the dolphins playing in the lake. There are hardly and good hotels and eating places on the eastern side but the resort on the other side has a good location, good rooms but the food is a bit expensive and you can enjoy the morning sun rising beyond the lake by sitting on the jetty. Yo can hire a motorboat to see the lake and the temple on the island.

This is a tidal lagoon and has a unique eco system. Its easily accessible from Puri and Bhubaneshwar. There is not much to do here so a day or two is enough. Main activities are boating, bird watching and looking for the elusive dolphins. OTDC has two properties in chilika and are the best bet if you wanna stay there.

Chillika lake is the biggest lake in India. It is a massive body of water where dolphins inhabit. There are several good resorts around the lake that also offer boat rides on the lake.

The best experience can be taken from a boat ride. We took a boat ride from the OTDC and enjoyed it till the end. If you are lucky, you could spot dolphins on the way. You could also buy refreshments before the boat ride.
