We were staying at the hotel, so took the opportunity to have dinner there on the Sunday. Sat in the bar, opposite a roaring log fire, drinking a spectacularly good Adnams Southwold Bitter (brewed in Southwold, about 3 miles away), and ordered the roast. One of the best I've ever had in a pub/ restaurant. Fantastically well cooked, good selection of veggies etc., really excellent. Wholeheartedly recommend it.

By the way, the previous evening we made the mistake of ordering starters and mains. Ouch. The starters were huge, and really, could have stopped there. So if you're planning on a 3 course meal there, make sure you're really, really hungry before you go!!

By mistake I placed my lunch review into the hotel section , I just failed to notice the split , however in fairness it is a very successful business and good luck to them .also no doubt I will return .it is just the way that they do things that grate on me , ie fish pie , two dishes on a plate , why ? sprats , three dishes on a serviette on a plate , why ? and curried parsnip soup which tasted neither of parsnip or curry , he who made it could not have tasted it but it would hang wallpaper ! It could really be good with just a little more thought .

This is a wonderful pub, very close to the beach with fantastic dog walks. The food is lovely and fresh, and the menu is perfect for being by the sea! It gets very busy, and the service could be a bit faster, but we had an enjoyable time. We would return, especially as it is doggy friendly.

Stayed at The Westleton Crown and did the Inn to Inn walk stopping here for a well deserved lunch. It was packed but had a lovely atmosphere, staff were totally on the ball and very helpful. The fish and chips my husband had was huge and fresh with wonderful crispy batter, I had the reed cutters platter which was a glorified ploughmans but very generous and had local cheese which was delicious. Nice selection of wines and the beers which were local, were very good according to the other half!

We were very much looking forward to our lunch at The Ship after reading really good reviews in local magazines. So after a lovely walk on the beach with our dog we were really disappointed. We both had fish and chips , the fish was pale with soggy batter and my mushy peas were cold and inedible . The waiting staff did not come back to ask if everything was OK ,so we had to wait until we had finished the meal to comment on this. We were not offered condiments either, so we had to borrow these from the next table .She said she would tell the chef, she did not report back to us, so when she next appeared we asked her what the chef had said. She said he was sorry and would knock £2 each off th bill !! . We then ordered a dessert, both served with luke warm custard. Surely it is not difficult to heat up custard. But, the log fire was lovely and our dog was welcomed.
