We had the most amazing family meal for 24 at The Red Lion Willingdon last week. All the food was superb, and the service was exemplary. Everything was served exactly as requested, excellent quality, piping hot and with a smile. The whole back room was put aside for us, well decorated, warm and friendly. I would wholeheartedly happily recommend for any events large or small. One of the very best venues in town for this size event. Thank you to the whole team.

Compared with on year ago when the restaurant was a cheap canteen yesterday
it was very cosy and comfortable,. The food was very poor belly pork the tiniest
ever with soft crackling [ main feature of belly pork] and atrocious apple crumble
with chunks of apple on which unpleasant crumble had been thrown. Would never
praise the food compared with an exact year ago when it was superb. new zealand
wine was a stupid price -over eight pound for a large glass crazy --this is not the
poshest restaurant in London so should get real -beers were high price --avoid the
place.

Let me start by saying the food is very good.

The customer family experience is appalling, as we experienced on a half term trip with the kids.

When we walked in, we sat down with our kids ( teenagers) at the bar, I was polite enough to ask is it ok to sit there and have a drink, pre dinner and was told by the lovely bar member, no problem.

Halfway through our drink, she sheepishly came over and told us, we can’t sit there, as another person had complained, it is NOT illegal for kids to sit at the bar, why did we have to move. There were no other tables in the bar, so we was told we would have to go and sit in the restaurant area above, poor start. The average age, in the pub was 60+, which isn’t a problem, but we’re looking at us a family, as if to say “who allowed you in”

We was told the whole place was booked out and was given a table at the back of the upper area, which was draughty and cold. NOBODY came and sat up there for the rest of the evening, we could have had a better table.

We ordered the food which as I say was great, but every time we wanted another drink, we had to go down and order ourselves, there was VERY little service afforded to us in the upper area, probably as they had just shoved us up there and don’t want us in there anyway.

When I booked it, it was face to face and I said there would be two children, so wasn’t a secret.

If they don’t want kids, that as fair enough and their choice and I’d prefer to know that, but don’t let them in, take our money and treat family’s, as if something on the bottom of your shoe.

Food great, service appalling and the ambience and treatment of a family, by far the worst we have ever experienced in the 000’s maybe 0000’s of times we have ate out.

The night after, a completely different lovely experience in the other local pub.
