“A fabulous relaxing getaway break”

Having never visited Essex and having a reason to come down I found this gem whilst looking for something to satisfy my birdwatching husband, to have a getaway break from a busy work schedule and to keep our early 20s children who decided to join us happy. Our daughter took residence in the sun room to work on her dissertation and the others of us read, bird watched ( 35 species from the house) watched films, ( both DVD and internet) walked to pubs, walked, relaxed slept well and just enjoyed the space and the huge skies. A lovely well equipped cottage which had absolutely everything we needed. Easy to keep warm and everything worked as promised. Big enough for 4 adults to feel there was space. Check on opening times of pubs and bars, particularly out of season as we fell foul of that twice ( rescued by an Indian restaurant and the fish and chip shop) . The sailor boy bar 2 miles along the sea wall had excellent pub food and good beer.
A thoroughly enjoyable break. Thanks

“Deliciously 'Seaside' Shabby Chic!”
Reviewed September 28, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

The photographs of the Beach House cannot do this wonderful holiday rental justice. The natural weathered shiplap exterior hides a cosy and warm environment. Sure the house is 'quirky', is the wrong side of the seawall, and isolated - but that is what makes staying there so great.

The experience is summed up by our first morning. When we opened the curtains in the front bedroom we were greeted by the sight of two Little Egrets fishing the creek right outside, two hot air balloons on the horizon and a Thames Barge under full sail. There is much to be said for this house, and we will be going back. Why don't you try it because the best reviews are in the guestbook!

A couple of tips:

To save packing food etc, try Click and Collect from a national supermarket chain whose name starts with a 'T', it's in Clacton just 5 and a half miles away. If you are taking a computer, log onto an AIS website and enter Brightlingsea into the Ports, you will then have the track, name and destination of the ships you will be watching from the glorious upper deck sunroom.

You have got to give this a try.

“Quirky, gorgeous beach house”

My friends and I had a wonderful time staying at the beach house. It's actually a little more spacious than I expected it to be and was so beautifully decorated. Weather was a bit breezy but we still enjoyed some beautiful walks and sat out on the terrace in the early evening. We would love to come back again in the summer!

“Truly magical”
Reviewed December 8, 2013 for a stay in December 2013

This amazing house, beyond the sea wall, is in a nature reserve and feels like the edge of the world, even though you are just 2 hours from London. The house is opposite a creek which you can wade across at low tide, wander through the dunes and find yourself on a completely deserted sandy beach strewn with shells, beautiful pebbles and live oysters. The house comes complete with it's own dingy and is the perfect place to come and disconnect yourself from a frantic non-stop life. Perfect for couples and a romantic weekend, it would also be amazing for families and kids in any season, summer or winter. You will leave refreshed and full of the huge skies and peace. My tip would be to get your food supplies from Carpenters Farm shop up the road in Great Bentley. I loved our stay here and really hope to return soon.
