We love Mexican food and at the last minute, me and my friend changed our plans from Wahaca at Bluewater and decided to try here. The location is not expected for this little gem. But don’t let that stop you going! The decor was lovely! Very themed and lots of fairy lights and I imagine, great for a party or large group outing! The prices were so reasonable as well. We had three starters to share between us and all were very good size and really tasty-chorizo and halloumi, spring rolls and calamari. The mains were crispy beef tacos and the chicken chimichanga. They were also really lovely and rather large portions again-4 big crispy tacos! Great cocktail menu and also really good prices about £6 each. Absolutely will be going again! My only criticisms are 1. that there are no stand alone tortilla chips and salsa on the menu, which seems quite standard for most Mexican restaurants surely. Or you sometimes get some on the side as a little freebie. I think when you are spending £50/£60, it would be nice to get a little something extra, like the prawn crackers at a Chinese when you are waiting for example. Especially as they cost almost nothing. 2. The amount of salsa served with the dishes was very small. Could have been a little bowls worth at least to hopefully be dunking some tortilla chips ;) . And 3. The heat level was very low, almost none existent. I had to ask for some hot sauce to add some kick and I got a teeny tiny bowl of a mild heated sauce which was ok. I truly believe there should be some little bottles of hot sauce or something though-give the customer the ‘pickle’ if you’ve ever been on a sales/hospitality training course! I know that adding heat can put people off, but jalapeños or chillis are so Mexican that the dishes deserve a little kick. Even the chillis like Pasilla didn’t seem to be there, and they aren’t spicy but are at least flavoursome.
These are really small things in the grand scheme of it all. The restaurant was great looking and authentic, and staff were lovely and helpful. We hadn’t booked but that didn’t matter, seated straight away, and it was over half full for a Friday night and this is great to see considering it’s not in a Main Street kind of place. will be going back for more :)
