Went to The Viceroy with a group of work colleagues. We had previously been in January and I didn't rate the experience then but everybody else wanted to go again so I went along.

Everything about the place is dated, the crockery, the carpet and the furniture. Service was good but the food was bang average. The stale popadoms we experienced on our first visit and that others have mentioned had been replaced with freshly cooked ones; the pickles were rather diappoiinting though. I had a Chicken Rogan with rice and naan and then tried a couple of the side dishes ordered by others. The curry was bland, chicken was sweaty and the tomatoes undercooked. The sides were inedible to my palate. Bill was on the steep side too.

There are far better options within a 15 minute drive. Don't waste your time or money.

The food is of good quality but is overpriced and found the portions to be small (eg £3.50 for 2 samosas!!)

Having been regulars at the Viceroy for years we stopped going a few months ago because of continued poor service and the insistence on serving stale popadoms (clearly cooked at least the day before).

We have just tried tried it for a takeaway (takeaway service was always good as it is quite clearly prioritised over restaurant service) and the main food was just as good as we remembered ........ but the popadoms were very stale; just as we remembered.
(there is a saying that comes to mind that might give away my roots ......... "don't spoil the ship for an ha'peth of tar"). We will stick with the Monsoon in future.

We eat here regularly. Food is always good, staff attentive and polite. All in all, a good experience. Recommended.

We have been eating at the Viceroy for over 10 years both in the restaurant and takeaway. We always find the food to be of high quality and the service very attentive. We have heard mixed reports from friends about the restaurant recently but our experience has always s been very good including our most recent visit just before Xmas. We find the food to be of high quality and with plenty of alternative curries to try. Our advice is to try something different to the same old traditional curry dishes. Also the chef will always make a vegetarian version of any curry on the menu.
