Luckily for us, my husband and I live only five minutes drive from The Riverside and find excuses to eat there as often as we can justify a celebration. Our anniversary meal this week was just as good as we have come to expect of this small hostelry. The welcome is always warm and smiling and the small seasonal menu always delicious. The lamb and pork dishes are our favourites and the creme brulees are irresistible. We always come away comfortably full and looking forward to the next visit.

I was made to feel welcome from the moment I arrived. My comfortable B&B room overlooked the road but the window was well sound insulated so I slept like a baby. A good selection of local beers and wines was supplemented by locally sourced food cooked to a very high standard. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and overall a very pleasant experience.

For those with an interest in angling, residents have access to fly fishing on the adjacent, picturesque River Lugg

My Husband and I spent a night here as a Birthday treat recently. We booked dog friendly accomodation and stayed in the Stable Suite which was comfortable, spacious and had all the facilities that we needed. We checked in and went for a good walk choosing one of the many routes around the area. Later that evening we had one of the best meals we had had in a while. The menu wasn't extensive but I always see this as a good sign and it was still difficult to choose because it all sounded so good. I had the Mussels in Cider followed by the Fillet Steak served with home cooked chips (delicious) and then because everything was so good I didn't feel I could miss out on desert. I tried the apricot jelly with Pannacotta - excellent. Just one of the nice little touches about this place is that you then get home made fudge served with coffee. It was a truely excellent dining experience.
Breakfast the next day was also cooked extremely well - I can reccomend the smoked salmon and excellent scrambled eggs.
All in all this is a really lovely pub and restaurant and we will definately return!

Spent a lovely Sunday lunch afternoon at the Riverside celebrating a family get together with my aunt from Portugal.
The fixed price Sunday lunch was excellent - the choice and quality of dishes were superb!
Service and attention to detail were excellent.
The house merlot (chile) was fantastic.
Can't wait until our next visit"

We spent the last weekend of November at this small hotel and restaurant celebrating with good friends. We were welcomed and shown to our rooms, both ensuite, both reasonably well appointed in a building with a couple of hundred years of history behind it. Our room was at the front, looking out over farmland, the meandering river and hills behind. Although the road through the village was under our window we never noticed any undue traffic noise. The room is situated over the entrance to the main barn restaurant, and you may get some noise filtering into the room, but unless you go to bed early, shouldn't be that bothered.
The owner and staff were all friendly, professional and personable. A couple of small issues that cropped up during a very busy Saturday evening meal were quickly and discretely dealt with by the owner himself.
The food in the restaurants, at both breakfast and for our Saturday night meal were excellent in both quality and presentation, and we felt were very good value for money. There were a good selection of wines, but only one Real Ale on tap, which was totally drinkable, sometimes too much choice can be a bad thing.
There are around 10 walks through the beautiful local countryside, all starting from the Inn, and the owner is more than happy to provide booklets and OS Maps to get you back safely.
The restaurant is very popular with locals, so if you are staying, it is advisable to book your table when you book your room.
Well worth the journey to visit this part of the country, check out Ludlow (10 miles NE) and enjoy some good food and hospitality.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the main restaurant may be quieter

Stayed for 5 nights in August during a business/leisure trip. Good-sized ensuite room, well appointed inc tea/coffee making facility and tv. Interesting stories attached to the inn! Very pleasant surroundings with seating in the garden and by the river. Good breakfast choices and very accommodating chef! Owner happy to suggest places to visit, routes, etc.
We dined in the restaurant every night and found the food exceptionally good, staff well-trained and friendly and Richard "running the ship" with quiet efficiency, thoughtfulness and good humour.
I note a previous reviewer thought the owner "eccentric" - our assessment would be a dry sense of humour. We appreciated the hospitality and have since tried to book in twice, but, have been unable to do so because of its obvious popularity as a good place to stay.

Looking forward to a return visit.
