Dined here at the end of January. Staff and service were impecable although the menu is fussy and tries too hard.

Colettes is a very small restaurant which comes as something of a surprise. The menu is unusual and I had lobster which really tasted strange and was not at all to my palate (something on it tasted like aniseed). Portions are OK but hardly filling. Cocktails and wine are very expensive. The bill for two came to over £100. It was a pleasant evening if only for the friendly bar service where I had a cocktail but I wouldn't rush back because the menu is trying too hard to be different and the taste combinations just done work.

Dear princessshrek,
Thank you for posting your review, and I am sorry to hear that you found some of the dishes not to your liking. We do get some fantastic feedback on the menu and balance of flavours that Russell Bateman crafts together, so I hope you will be able to return soon and try our ever changing menu.

Stayed here for two night over a weekend in Dec 2011 as a group of 5 couples. Enjoyed the easy access from central London (plenty of free car parking), the setting and luxury facilities.

The rooms (we all had deluxe rooms which were modern contemporary, very spacious and with a small balcony overlooking the rear gardens), spa (lovely facilities but expensive), restaurants/bars and service (in particular the service!) were all great. Even though the hotel is huge we felt very well looked after, staff always went out of their way to make us feel special.
We tried most of the restaurants on offer and were extremely impressed. You have complete choice of having a super relaxed eveing but also a glamorous night out, depending on which restaurant you choose.

Even though we were without our baby daughter on this occasion we noticed that the hotel has excellent childcare facilities. There is a separate Kids Club with a creche like facility which caters for babies of all ages (rare to find..)! I believe in the summer months there is also an outdoor pool which is popular with families.

A couple of points to make note of: as the hotel is huge the distance between main facilities (such as spa or the main restaurant/bars) and rooms can be rather long. Whilst the corridors are decorated very nicely in an attempt to enhance the journey, it is still a very long walk. It took us between 5 and 10 minutes to get from our room to the main reception - whilst this might not seem very long, if you just want to pop back to the room to get something you forgot it does add up over a weekend. Whilst I didn't mind so much everyone in our group always commented on this.

The other thing in any hotel of this standard is the hefty price you pay for everything. Although the superb breakfast was included in our room price a weekend doesn't come cheap, in particular if you also want to have a couple of spa treatments. As expected the final bill was not for the faint hearted!

Overall we had a great time and can't wait to return! Next time with our daughter to check out the lovely kids facilities.

Stayed 3 nights at the Grove with my partner and our son. It is a perfect place in the middle of the countryside.

Check-in was faultless and upon arrival in our room cookies and a robe awaited out son. Shortly afterwards we had a warm glass of milk delivered too. We stayed in a deluxe room which was plenty big enough for the 3 of us – our son slept in on the sofa bed which was made up for us each night.

Breakfast was served in the Glasshouse which was lovely – everything you could possibly wish for – we also have dinner here each evening as this is a less formal dining.

There are facilities to hire bikes which we did and went on a great bike ride round the grounds of the hotel which we all really enjoyed.

Our son was very impressed with the games room which had Wii console and games and Xbox.

I would highly recommend a trip to the Grove (especially if you have children).

Dear OscarDog2005,
Thank you for taking the time to post this positive review of The Grove. We take great pride in the facilities we offer for our guests, especially those travelling with children and strive to make The Grove a child and parent-friendly hotel. The Glasshouse and The Stables both provide excellent dining options for those with children, and of course we can always organise a babysitter for you should you wish to enjoy an evening in Colette’s. I do hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you and your family back to The Grove in the very near future.

I have just returned from a night at the Grove and I can definitely say it is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in when in the UK.

As you drive into the grounds you can tell you are in a very nice place, and the cars in the car park only reinforce that still further. From the reception to the bedrooms the hotel exudes quality and nothing seems to be too much of a problem for the staff.

The restaurant and bar areas are also fantastic and I can safely say from a previous visit that the golf course fits perfectly into the surroundings.

Overall a fantastic hotel that I am always delighted to go back to.

My wife and I stayed here after hearing good reviews from work colleagues. As regular visitors to some of the best hotels I have to say we were very disappointed. We chose the spa break offer which was £420 for the night. The room on it's own normally costs £245 and I do not see how they can justify this. It's very small and very stuffy - we did not have a good nights sleep. The bathroom has no wow factor which you would expect when paying in this price band.

The spa itself is nice, the treatment was excellent and the staff friendly. The child free policy makes for a relaxing atmosphere and the place was spotless. Dinner is the Glasshouse buffet is also included but again this was a disappointment. Wine is extortionate - £50 for a plain old bottle of pino grigio! The food too was nothing special and would never justify the £75 per couple they usually charge.

We did not use the gold facilities and in short, unless you are coming here for golf there is very little to do. The only close destination is Watford which is best avoided unless you enjoy fake Ugg boots and McDonalds. My advice would be save your money for one of the many decent hotels in London.

I just wanted to say I have stayed at the Grove many times before and it is the only place I know that as soon as I drive through the entrance my stress seems to lift....I get as excited going here for a night as I do going away for a week somewhere hot! The first time I ever went we drove up to the main entrance and there was a lovely man there to help us with our bags and took our car key and parked our car for us, in the mean time we checked in and went up to the room, which was amazing, beautiful views from a lovely balcony. We eat lunch in the stables bar and watched the football with a lovely cold beer and then took a stroll around the gardens and even played a game of croquet! Then we went on to the spa and had a great aruyvidic treament each and met up in the thalossotherapy pool after, we had a yummy smoothie and then went back to our room to get ready for dinner....we went to the glasshouse...had a cocktail or 2 in the bar (I have to say the staff are fantastic, so helpful and a little bit cheeky) and then carried on in to the restaurant....well what a place! Soooooo much choice and everything was awesome....I especially love the sushi and the salt baked Halibut! After dinner we got a bit tipsy in the bar before sinking in to the deep fluffy pillows in our bed! After an amazing nights sleep we awoke to our newspaper waiting for us, flung on some tracksuits and had a relaxing walk around the grounds and then to breakfast, again back at the glasshouse, I had steak and hash browns and I thought the chefs were great, one even wrote down the recipe for the salt baked halibut that I'd had the night before!!!
So overall, I love this hotel, yes it is pricey (noticed that the glasshouse has now gone up to £49, which is a bit ott) however for a special occasion it really is worth every penny :) xxxx

Room Tip: I like the red rooms (deluxe west wing) on the first floor with a little balcony.

Well, what can I say.... I was overjoyed when my partner told me we were spending Saturday night at the Grove; the hotels reputation goes before it!!! So I am writing this review from my hotel bedroom, on what has been anything but a restful or romantic evening.... I must however caveat my review with the fact the the reception team could not have done more for us to try and resolve things. The hotel and grounds are stunning, gym is well equipped although I have to say the spa reception team are anything but friendly... The fact you have to ask how to get to the facilities is never a good sign... And in fact I have to say this is the only place in the hotel where we were made to feel unwelcome. Anyway I am getting off track and so back to the events of the evening....

We were really disappointed when we realised we had left it too late to make a reservation in any of the restaurants to eat at a reasonable time (we called to book at around 5pm, and would be unable to get a table until 9.30). So we decided to see what the list of available DVDs was as noted in the hotel information, and order room service - this is when the fun started.... The tv was making a really load buzzing noise (and sounded like someone had a hair dryer running constantly) and we couldn't see any means of playing the mentioned DVDs. So my partner visited reception to investigate... No longer any option for DVDs just pay per view movies... Except our tv was telling us we'd checked out so that didn't work either. Maintenance came to the room to fix the tv (noise) and told us the fan was malfunctioning and we needed to move rooms, so move rooms we did - twice!! (the hotel did upgrade us for the trouble, and the rooms are lovely). Anyway we settled down to relax for the remainder of the evening, when we realised that we couldn't alter the volume on the tv, que arrival of a new remote. This was then followed by the picture freezing, at times disappearing all together, so we ended up turning this off and huddling around my iPad (not the expected option in a 5 star hotel with a 42 inch screen on the wall!). What a frustrating evening - should have just stayed at home, as the relaxing night away, not so relaxing. Please please please sort out your returaunt capacity, your entertainment systems, and update your hotel info.... Am not going to be rushing back for another night here which is such a shame, I had such high hopes!

Room Tip: Upgrade to h delux, so much more spacious and lovely bathrooms

Dear kimbo500,
Thank you for posting your review of your stay at The Grove. Whilst I am pleased to hear that our team were supportive and helpful, I am sorry for the trouble you had with your restaurant reservation and television. Unfortunately, due to high demand our restaurants often have limited availability at short notice, which is why we encourage our guests to make a reservation at time of booking to avoid disappointment. Our television system is currently being upgraded and whilst this is of little consolation to you, I do hope you will experience an improved service on your next visit to The Grove.
