This is what a pub should be and always used to be. The landlord Les, is a proper landlord, a gentleman, who wears a tie and is what you would say a proper Publican. He is not just friendly but also knowledgeable about most things but has lived a life to the fullest and is exemplary as a human being. The pubs decor is wonderfully dated and vintage. The loos are clean and you can hear the traffic outside. This is a shepherd neame pub which has, thank god,not (yet) been Farrow and Balled and has therefore kept a very authentic character; and yes when you step inside you might feel slightly outside your comfort but then this really is a Pub - and not a tarted up Gastropub...and visiting the crown and anchor certainly brings back memories of times gone by. There is no wifi...but they have conversation in the crown and anchor.
