The George Hotel was our port in a storm. We were hungry and nothing was open in March. We were made to feel welcome by staff and regulars at the bar. They provided warm food and even had some cake left over from Mothers day.
Thank you

Very Very nice rooms.. its a shame about the very drunk man in the bar, who was continually served despite his condition. When we arrived before 6pm it was clear he was out of it... and we just knew that he would kick off. Despite this, he continued to be served knocking over drinks and eventually wanting to fight everyone in the bar. Shame as its a lovely place. If you want food, order prior to 6pm or you wont get anything. Not sure why we got a shared bathroom room when all other rooms on our floor including an en suite were empty.

I have stayed at The George hotel three times now, most recently on the August bank holiday Sunday, had a lovely carvery in the afternoon and that night they had a very good singer performing in the bar.
The rooms are spotless and the hotel is a relaxed and friendly place,I will be going back soon.

Per Judith R's review from 30/5: "The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. It was an ensuite but no soap/cleaner in shower. No hot water in the hand basin, and no glasses. Room is over bar so it was a bit noisy on Saturday night! Parking area at the back of hotel and convenient position."

Well, during our 3 night stay mid-August 2016, nothing has changed. This one, the only ensuite room is refurbished & pleasantly comfortable. As above though, the little comfort details are missing - no dressing table nor mirror anywhere near the two (only) plug sockets - we used my extension lead & bought a cheap table-top mirror. I am nearly 6ft but the shaving mirror is fixed far too high for easy use. My wife needed a ladder! No razor light/charger, no hand towels, only bath ones, no spare toilet rolls, wi-fi marginal. I could go on.

I encourage the owners to spend at least one night in this room. It could be made so much more welcoming with a few more bits of furniture & electrical items. This is your business & you are losing custom by ignoring constructive reviews such as that from Judith R.

Room Tip: The sole ensuite room is by far the best option. Two shared bathrooms though for the others.

Popped into the George Hotel in Lydd High Street for a quick pint. Only one choice of bitter, which was served without any of the bonhomie you expect from a village pub.
So a disappointing start. The outside of the pub/hotel has just been redecorated and looks fine but it belies a drab interior which is in need of a makeover. Young children behind the bar was a concern, with one young girl seemingly there most of the time. At least she was not serving!
