“Lovely house with stunning views and amazing sunsets”
Reviewed April 22, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We were a group of 9 women, celebrating many years of friendship and two special birthdays over a long weekend at Shell Ness. We enjoyed our stay very much, found the house to be a good size, so that we never felt on top of each other.
The bedrooms were spacious, the beds comfortable and the house was very clean. We found the kitchen to be well equipped, apart from a lack of wine glasses and no flutes. There were loads of water/juice/beer glasses but far less for wine, and as we had each brought 2 bottles of fizz and a bottle of wine, we struggled a little. We also found the description of 5 bathrooms to be a bit misleading, as in fact there are 3 bathrooms, one bedroom with a toilet and hand basin, and a downstairs cloakroom.
The house has wonderful views over the sea from all the balconies, and on our last evening we enjoyed a stunning sunset, glass of fizz in hand, a memory we all took away with us. We quite enjoyed seeing the trains and didn't find them at all troublesome, in fact we waved to them quite a lot, think that had something to do with the fizz!
The owner was extremely pleasant and helpful when we managed to lock ourselves out, not being used to the key safe, and he came over to rescue the situation. We were very grateful, and wondered about a spare key, never to be removed from the key safe, as a precaution?
Overall, we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are thinking of returning next year.

Dorothy F,
So glad you enjoyed your stay and have taken on board your comments. The wine glasses and champagne glasses are in the sideboard but we are going to update the 'guests guide book' in the house to make finding them a bite easier and include a bit more detail on how things work! We have also updated the web site description.
Always welcome feedback and do hope you will return next year. We hope to have a few more additions to the property and exceed your expectations next time....

“Lovely large, modern property with lots of space, also well equipped.”
Reviewed January 16, 2016 for a stay in December 2015

We had a family get together at Shell Ness. 8 adults, 4 children and a baby. We were impressed at how spacious the property is and how big the bedrooms are. The living area, although open plan was large enough for us all to be together without feeling cramped. Another review mentioned the close proximity of the railway, it was not a problem for us at all. The house is well equipped, although a bit more fridge space would have been good. We had a lot of food to store! The views are lovely. Even though it was winter, the children enjoyed the enclosed garden. We would definitely stay again.

Liked best: The split level design of the property and the spaciousness.
Liked least: I had to ask for my deposit to be returned but it was returned immediately when I did ask.

“Great place to stay for groups and families”
Reviewed October 20, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We went to Whitstable with a group of friends (10+) and we were absolutely stunned with how amazing the Shell Ness property is. It's very spacious with all the amenities and secure access and absolutely stunning sea view from a great and very accommodating terrace! It has a garden, two terraces, a number of bedrooms and bathrooms and even a bed for a baby!

It's maybe 20 mins walk to the town centre, but it's a lovely beach walk, with great views on the way so we didn't mind it all.

Someone mentioned the train tracks, yes there's a train passing by but you cannot hear it almost at all in the house and it didn't bother us at all, so I don't think it's a concern.

“Don't mention the railway line (I think we got away with it)!”

We stayed as three couples for our annual get together - all converging from different parts of the country. We paid our non-returnable deposit to find that an additional charge of £65 for cleaning and £85 for linen had been added - this seemed somewhat steep on top of paying £1265 for three nights and should have been mentioned prior to booking. Not all of the beds were made up despite being asked and we were asked on top of this to strip the beds on leaving. The house was modern and spacious with good views over the railway line. Looking at the advertising it seems that the house is on the beach when in fact it is a half mile walk away (with a railway line running through the bottom of the garden). The room we stayed in downstairs had no hanging space at all and no waste bin. The kitchen was well appointed though we did have to purchase a vegetable peeler (not the end of the world).
It was a nice place to stay though we got the impression that the owners were out to pay their mortgage from the rentals and not doing it for the benefit of their guests.(And who writes a review about their own property in the guest book?). It was overpriced and somewhat disingenuously sold. I for one will not be going back.

Liked best: The balcony and the views from the living room/kitchen window
Liked least: The railway line and the fact that we were charged for cleaning and linen after the non refundable deposit had been paid.

Many thanks for taking your time to provide a review of our Shell Ness property in Whitstable and for the points raised. We are very glad you enjoyed the stunning 180 degree views of the sea from the living room and balcony terraces.
We are sorry that you feel your holiday was spoilt by the railway at the bottom end of the garden. Although it is well below the fence line we have now added a note about this on the property description. Our children do in fact love watching the trains pass, which have a fairly low objective noise level of about 43 decibel as measured in the kitchen, other guests (other than your party) have not reported it as being intrusive. The position of the railway also improves the security of the property and stops people roaming in off the beach.
With regards to parking we have now rebuilt part of the front wall by the door which improves access and will allow a third small car to be parked inside the secure parking area by the house. To avoid inconveniencing our neighbors, however, we do still request parking of additional cars in the quiet side road opposite.
We understand your point about the added cleaning & laundry charges which we have now incorporated into a single ‘all in’ rental fee (for stays of three or more days) which will be reduced if not all the beds are used / made up. We have in the past fully refunded bookings if people raised concerns about the service charges and we would have happily entertained such a refund request had one been made.
We accept there is limited wardrobe storage in this very spacious house but have now provided multiple clothes hanging pegs in all the bedrooms, and will be providing waste bins.
With regards to access to the beach the walk measures 250 meters over the bridge to the high water mark from the front door, we are sorry you felt this was not accurately reflected in the details. Following the changes we have made we do hope you we reconsider a return visit.

Kind Regards Phil & Sarah (Owners)

An amazing place to stay if you are looking for a bit of luxury in the wonderful town of Whitstable. Our group of 12 had a wonderful time during our short break. Excellent hidden extras with this property, for example, a very well stocked kitchen with all the utensils you could need. Clean and very well presented. The views themselves are worth staying for!
Great service from the owners, would definitely return if we were to stay in Whitstable again.

“Amazing house with specatular views”
Reviewed September 17, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

To celebrate our 10 year company anniversary 11 of stayed at Shell Ness and had the most fantastic long weekend.

The house is absolutely stunning and it was one of the best views I have ever seen. All the amenities are clean and modern. We had a lovely evening at the local pub and another night we enjoyed a BBQ on the balcony whilst watching the sunset.
It was very close to Whitstable town where there are lovely boutique shops and great restaurants.

The whole group would stay here again and we would recommend the house to anyone.
