Lovely hall with so much to see, amazing history on show and all for free. Beautiful walled gardens and a cafe too. Definitely worth a visit or two
To start with the car park is free and plentiful which was a very pleasant surprise! We loved the old Victorian walled garden and the differently fruit trees growing there, it was a beautiful sunny day we enjoyed looking around the stately home also free to do and rather interesting! The lake is beautiful wished we had brought a picnic! The woodlands were fun to explore and the play areas were excellent for the children, I took our two year old son my daughter and her friend both 10 and we easily spent the best part of the afternoon playing! Wished we had made the cafe for cream tea but we had already missed it by the time we came to go! What a fantastic family day out and best of all FREE!
I took my sister today. It's the first time she'd been and was very impressed with it. We only live across the road so I've been loads of times and I love the place. The building is beautiful and the walled garden and wood are great to wander around. Cafe Ambio in the old coach house is lovely for a lunch as well.
Went to the hall during the flower show and were able to visit the gallery to see the skeleton exhibition which was very interesting. The hall puts on a variety of exhibitions throughout the year which are always well worth a visit as is the the exhibition "Chorley Remembers" in the hall refurbished (life access available )stable. Entry tot he Hall and stable museum area is free. Sometimes there is a charge for certain of the gallery exhibitions. Access to the Hall gallery is by steps but there is no lift as the hall is quite old and not suitable for one.
Its well worth a visit just to see the incredible plaster work ceilings! Its free but I was so impressed I left a donation. The staff welcoming visitors to the hall were very good too.
We were shocked when we arrived and were told that entrance to the hall and gardens was completely free of charge! The house itself was beautiful with stunning periods furniture. Each room has a written description to accompany it. The house had a lovely feel to it and you are free to explore as you please. The long gallery was closed when we visited as there was not enough volunteers to staff it but there was an excellent descriptive video to watch which was extremely informative. The grounds were beautiful and there are plenty of picnic spots. Nice walks and a large play area. Good cafe to. A great day out
