Stopped here for lunch, as part of a long country walk from Egerton to Abbey Village. There was a large walking group already in pub ordering lunch, but I got my order of soup quickly. Pleasant enough stop but nothing special. Handy location, given length of walk.

What a great surprise this place was! We dropped in for an impromptu lunch only to find that there was a German menu available with traditional dishes! Being a big fan of German food mean't this was promising. The food arrived and looked superb and the best bit was, it tasted even better than it looked. All freshly made with evidently good ingredients. Amazing.

Wonderful service as well which is always a bonus!

We shall soon becoming regulars here!

We enjoyed a warm welcome in the Hare and Hounds with our dogs after a wet walk round the reservoirs. Enjoyed tasty meals including German home cooked specialty pot roast. Good value. Already planning to return with friends.

We were passing after visiting Fox's Timber. Few folk in & declared dog friendly! It was mid week.

A few real beers & lagers on offer, wines too.

There's a German section to the menu. We did "swappies" on the seafood platter & egg & German ham on a toasted bread. All really good. We shared a portion of chips.

Plenty enough to eat. Bill only £30 or so. We'd go again & explore the German list again.

Looked popular with hikers & ramblers (& bow-wows!)...

The Hare and Hounds is a refreshing surprise for anyone seeking an alternative to the typical pub fare. With a menu that would be more at home in a German kneipe, the Hare and Hounds offers dishes which are very reasonably priced, well prepared and amply served in decently sized portions. The ingredients are fresh, and the meals are promptly brought to the table in the pub's low key but friendly atmosphere.

We've been a few times since it has reopened and we've not be let down once. There's an excellent selection of ales, ciders and wine, as well as two authentic German lagers on draft. The service is courteous and efficient, friendly and competent. The Hare and Hounds is also dog friendly, offering fresh bowls of water for your parched pooch.

So, what more could anyone want from a pub after a long hike over the hills and around the reservoir? Well worth the stop, but check their site for opening times and detailed menu.
