We knew it would be a basic no thrills overnight stay at £35 a night but we did expect it to be clean.
When you walk in the porch you're straight into the dining room, which you have to walk through to reach the reception. The first thing that hits you apart from it being gloomy is the smell - it's a musty strange smell akin to some charity shops.

Our room was an adequate size, the ensuite was very dated, mouldy grouting in the shower, the basin was cracked and chipped, the lino cracked and very dirty. The room had an overpowering smell of synthetic air freshener but we couldn't leave the window open as it's on the ground floor. The bathroom lights and fan blew as I was getting ready for the wedding party and the kettle didn't work.

Having said that, the owners were very polite, the bedding and towels were clean and the bed was comfortable. We did not want to use the shower nor did we stay for breakfast as the smell was too overpowering and we just needed to get out of there.

I understand that the place is a work in progress but there's no excuse for uncleanliness.

This is a cheap hotel - I knew that before booking but the photos on the website are totally misleading.
I booked it on the description of the small independent family run business and the lovely photos on the listing.
It is shabby, the bar is shut up and appears to be full of building stuff, corridors have cracked and flaky plaster. The bathroom was dated and the shower cubicle had mould on the seal.
The bed was clean and comfy- if a little high .
The couple running it were very friendly and helpful.
There was free wifi.

A little uneasy when we first seen the Lodge but all was not as it seemed.
We went to our room,it was spottless ,the bed was very nice ,it was quiet at night.
The breakfeast was good ,,The couple who run the place are first class.

This is home away from home. Family owned, budget priced, comfortable beds.
We returned to find that they are still improving it. Now it has new windows and the style is still retro. Not the Ritz so don't expect that here. Just a nice, friendly, comfy, non chain place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the end may have trouble getting wifi if a lot of people are using it, as on weekends.

Arrived very late (after 10pm) to an unmanned reception so had to call a mobile number to check in. Very friendly staff. Room was clean & comfortable and the heating was very good.
Good value for money
