A group of ten of us, all pensioners, chose this restaurant for a pre-Christmas meal.
Having booked and ordered from the on line menu in advance, we were given our own room, and we were able to take our time over lunch.
The food was excellent, the service timely, and we were not pressured into leaving, even though there were few diners left by the time we decided to go.
I would recommend this restaurant, and will certainly revisit in the future.

My husband and I looked for a reasonable place to stay, close to somewhere nice to visit (Stamford short drive away)with a bar and restaurant on site. The Six Bells fit the bill and therefore we booked. Although the website did say to book a table in advance to avoid disappointment, I completely forgot, therefore was very thankful that on the day of our trip the restaurant rang and asked if we wished to book a table given they were filling up fast. We were so glad they did!

The room was lovely. Functional with a good finish. There was some low level noise from downstairs in the restaurant, however this was nothing that wasn’t expected and obviously subsided once the restaurant closed.

The food in the restaurant was absolutely delicious and reasonable in price. It was very busy, testament to the good food on offer.

We will definitely be staying again, and eating in the restaurant.

Well done Six Bells!

Thank Amy W

We had the set menu lunch here today-£13 for two courses or £17 for three. Extremely good value quality food, including pigeon breast option. Delicious food in lovely surroundings, with attentive staff. However it was let down by the overcharging for the red wine. I had two large glasses of Malbec wine and it cost £21.50 for the two. I have drunk good quality Malbec wine all over the world, ( UK, France, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and USA.), and have never paid £10.75 for a glass, even a large one. It was a shame as it spoilt what was otherwise a very pleasant lunch.

We were surprised and delighted at just how lovely both the pub and the meal was at the Six Bells. Surprised, because as a table of 12, we had to have the set menu and this didn't bode well. The choices (pate, soup or smoked haddock risotto for starters) seemed straight out of the seventies but in fact did the chef a huge disservice.

Our party actually turned into an eight and we were allowed the a la carte menu which had much more choice, but even if we had been forced to have the set with three choices, we would not have been disappointed. The partridge was moist, delicious land well cooked, the vegetables interesting and intelligently presented and the other choices were enjoyed by everyone. Good starters and country puddings were all well received.

The pub itself is warm, cosy and comfortable, and with an interesting choice of interior decor, certainly not boring. The staff were helpful and efficient. This was one of the best pub meals we have had in the vicinity for some time. The Rutland and Stamford area is heaving with country pubs offering food, but not all of them live up to expectations. This one exceeded them by a mile.
