This is a grand old castle that has been restored many times and still serves as the winter home to the Duke of Northumberland. The state rooms are quite beautiful and lovely to visit and the structure of the castle itself is amazing. But where this castle really shines is in the offerings to kids.

As home to many of the outdoor scenes in Harry Potter movies, they have capitalized on this by having lots of Potter themed things going on. The best of course is the opportunity to take photos of your kids flying heir brooms. Amazing!!

Additionally, there is sword fighting, archery, a kids playground and many other kids related activities. You won't be sorry you brought your kids here.

This is an amazing castle showing all the normal historic features but adding the personal family touch. How great to see such a beautiful building with all the current family touches

Had a great day today visiting with my wife and four daughters. Spectacular building and scenery and friendly staff. A tad overpriced hence the lack of 5 stars. Particulars surprising was the info on Northumberland fusiliers - very enlightening!
Note I bought a combined ticket for the castle and gardens gardens website - cheaper on their site than the castle one!! [and bought on the morning of the visit rather than the stipulated 24hrs in advance as per the castle website]

Family visit to Alnwick Castle to see the history...... oh who are we kidding, we went to visit Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. Alnwick Castle was used as a set in at least two of the films and you really feel you're there. Great photo opportunities. Lots of activities to try while you're there including broomstick training but also lots of medieval activities too! The state rooms worth a look to see how 'the other half' live.... the Duke of Northumberland does live there in the Winter. You could easily spend a day so ticket price probably worth it... even more so if you are able to visit again as ticket valid for whole year (subject to opening).
