“Nice quiet hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2012

I have just returned from a 2 night break which was brought for my husband and I as a wedding present. My husband had tried to arrange champagne and flowers in our room upon our arrival as a suprise for me but he had great difficulty arranging this prior to our visit with staff not ringing him back after saying they would and then the phone constantly ringing out.
This was eventually sorted out and we were greeted with a beautiful bouquet and very tasty champers.
The hotel itself is lovely on first impressions, yes the rooms are very tired and need a spruce up but we didnt spend too much time in the room and as long as we have a comfy bed and its clean we are normally pretty happy. The bed was 2 singles pushed together so the hotel do need to invest in doubles. In saying that we found our bed very comfy and not at all ' lumpy ' as described in other reviews.
The food was lovely and could not at all be faulted.
The staff were helpful and pleasant and very hardworking.
On our first night a celebrity was also staying at the hotel and although it was rather exciting that she was in the same hotel as us I felt that a senior member of staff was a little unprofessional in that he was openly talking about how long she was staying and discussing her coming and goings with other guests so in the end i felt quite sorry for the celeb !
When checking out we were overcharged and had to amend our bill twice, however it wsa eventually resolved and whilst standing around the reception desk it was apparent that it wasnt just our bill that was wrong.
Overall the Mill House hotel is a ' nice ' place to stay with lovely food and helpful staff.

Myself and my party have just returned from a 2 night break at this hotel. The hotel itself is charming, the staff are really friendly/Helpful, and the food is wonderful. I do have one little criticism though. The rooms are a little tired. The mattresses are a little bit lumpy, and the bedding needs updating. They could do with a makeover in my opinion, but it certaintly didnt spoil our trip. The food is fantastic and thats enough to return, so am sure we will see you again. Thanks.

This is the fourth year running that we have stayed at the Mill House whilst we attend Cheltenham races and once again it was excellent. Yes it is a bit old fashioned and creaky but it is spotless, the rooms are clean and have everything you need, the staff are excellent and the food is wonderful. If you are looking for a corporate party hotel then this is definately not the place for you but if you want a quiet, relaxed break with excellent food then give it a try.

Stayed here for 2 nights . Had to ask reception to change room as the top floor one was terrible especially for the price!! Although the hotel had a lovely outlook the inside especially the rooms were very tired looking. No atmosphere in the bar or loung. Everyone seemed to be in bed by 9. 30. No background music in either rooms. Very disappointed . Would not stay again as other hotels cheaper and better!!

Room Tip: Make sure if you go you ask for a downstairs room!!!

Many thanks for your comments. As we understand it the room change to the ground floor was requested due to a medical condition and we happily accommodated this request.
It is quite unusual for the bar to be empty at 9:30pm so apologies for the lack of atmosphere on this particular occasion. We do find that most of our guests prefer not to have background music in the restaurant but music is always available on request.

The first really sunny and warm weekend of the year made for a wonderful Cotswolds weekend. The Mill House is unassuming but comfortable, very characterful, staff are good, unobtrusive but attentive. Decor could do with an update, the smell of fresh paint pervaded the reception area so I guess there is some work going on. The bed however was creaky and old - the duvets lumpy - but having said that the room was warm and comfortable, flat screen tv, wonderful home made cookies and plenty of tea and coffee. Breakfast was possibly the best I have ever had, lots of choice, all wonderful produce - maybe the restaurant and bar could have done with a little background music? Ate from the bar menu on Saturday night and it was delicious. We found this place wonderful, its setting in the gorgeous Cotswolds is to die for - for the money we paid, with a KGB deal amazing - whether we would pay full price is doubtful but if another voucher comes up we will certainly book again. Lovely!

I stayed here as part of a large group of 14. The welcome we received was lovely and friendly and the entrance to the hotel looks fabulous with all the spring flowers just blooming.

The rooms (my 3 children stayed in a separate room to my husband and I) were not next door to each other, as we had specified, but a short walk along the corridor. We coped and it wasn't the end of the world. The children had a superior room and it was nice enough. The bathroom was not very clean. It looked as if it had been a while since the sinks had been wiped and there were hairs in the plugholes. The 'touch to operate' bedside lights were a big hit with the children as was the tv first thing in the morning.

Our room had a very small bathroom and was poorly designed. A small shelf for our toilet bags in the opposite corner to the sink and mirror. The towel rail wasn't big enough to actually hang 2 bath towels and hand towels on and the cord for the light switch was very short. I still struggle to understand why some hotels still insist on putting the towels on the bed for us. I'm not going to use them in there!

Both rooms were extremely hot. I turned all the radiators down and opened up the windows. Also, there was no obvious place to put 2 suitcases without causing an obstruction somewhere in the room. The doors were springloaded and required a hefty push to open them. The children found this difficult and I trapped my finger on the first morning, leaving me with a badly bruised finger.

As a large group, we were given half the restaurant and a massive table to ourselves. The waiters were attentive and friendly. They were happy to accomodate all our requests (melon for my daughter, bottles sterilised for my niece, endless cups of coffee and tea, keeping a cake in a cool spot for the following day ...) the quality of food was superb at dinner and breakfast. We found the lounge pleasant enough, but had to rearrange the chairs each time to make room for all of us.

Overall, this is a nice enough hotel, but could be a fabulous little gem if the rooms were given a little tweak. The staff and food were superb and, for that, I commend you!

yet another couple enjoying the excellent travekzoo offer at the mill.this was a return visit for us,interesting to read the recurring theme in most of the reviews...tired decor, too hot,too cold, poor bathrooms, uncomfortable beds....we found food and service once again excellent but dont understand why the owner is unwilling to spend money on updating his esrtablishment,is retirement looming i wonder........another offer and we will certainly return..but glad we did'nt pay full price.

Room Tip: make sure room is within hotel and not annexe.
