Have stayed at The Fleece last year and it was fine, but this time (in Jan 2017) we were very disappointed. Stayed there for a birthday celebration, while the food was good, be it a bit pricey the room and service was poor. We had a room in the annex which was small and an even smaller bed. The service was not up to the standard we had last time we stayed and was very disappointed this time. Our tip make sure you are staying in the annex.

Room tip: Dont stay in the annex

I was taken to the fleece by my partner for my birthday. I had not been in for some time and had not eaten in there for over 3 years.
The place is nicely presented with a good mix of bar and table area.
The staff were friendly and quick to meet us.
The food was excellent. A good choice on the menu at prices average for the area. The quality was way above average. The shoulder of lamb was fantastic! Presented well and full of flavours. My partner had the duck which although excellent was eclipsed by the lamb and she had "plate envy"!
A fantastic gin and tonic and excellent wine finished off a fabulous evening.
Unfortunately the fleece let itself down in one area. Hence only a very good not excellent rating. The gents were disgusting. I've been in worse toilets but these have been in back street boozers. Rusty radiator, shabby decorating, very dirty in places and a smell associated with lack of cleaning. A real shame as the fleece was great in all other areas.

A wonderful 4 nights stay here...I didn't want to leave.
I was looking for somewhere not too impersonal or too claustrophobic..not too clinically modern or too basic/dated.
This place is just the perfect mix, warm, welcoming and comfortable with the added advantages of all your modern home comforts.
A gastro/pub/hotel in a lovely situation right on the Church Green in the heart of Witney.
Excellent for exploring Witney by foot and easy to drive further afield into the Cotswolds which are right on your doorstep. Also the Park and Ride is a short drive away for heading into Oxford.
All the staff are extremely friendly, genuine and helpful...without being intrusive or 'just polite' because it's their job!
A great advantage here is the bar/restaurant, which serves food from an extensive and varied menus...all day...
It was brilliant to spend all day driving around and exploring the Cotswolds and surrounding area and return whenever I liked to a welcoming bar and and no time restrictions for getting something delicious to eat.
I'm not a breakfast person...but the kettle with tea/coffee/hot chocolate in my room was ideal and the lovely artisan biscuits(replaced every day) were perfect...Banana and Butterscotch were my favourite!

The main priorities for guests...
Very comfortable bed..
Powerful shower with plenty of hot water...
Room cleaned everyday...
Quiet, with no noise issues...

Other advantages...
Free off road parking
Free WiFi
Separate key for direct outside access to your room..so you needn't walk through bar/restaurant area if you didn't want to...or were restricted time wise, if returning late at night.
A great set up all round and since I was there on my own...couldn't have been more comfortable....

A big thankyou to all the staff at The Fleece...

Visited on a Tuesday night, burger night. Very good quality ingredients cooked to perfection. Good value considering that quality especially with £15 off January offer. Lovely surroundings and attentive service. Only criticisms would be that the restaurant could have been a bit warmer, and that the waitress who greeted us should really have waited for me to get my coat off, before explaining the menu. But a lovely evening was had by all, so well done to all, particularly that excellent chef in the kitchen.

Sited on a tropical Cotswold village green, it's a friendly busy pub with a variety of patrons ranging from business breakfasts to pub lunches and casual dinners. Rooms homely with everything you need. TV needs updating! Breakfast is divine but, considering they pride themselves on the local meat, my steak at dinner was inedible . Oddly, the last time I stayed here and ordered a steak it was tough as old boots. The waitresses were young and so didn't handle my complaint well at all. But over all a reasonable place to stay.
