This was our second time staying at south lodge and decided to stay at one of the newly built Reeds Lodges, for a romantic two night stay for our anniversary. The lodges are advertised as being tranquil and an escape into nature, with private and relaxing terrace (the words used on their website) with an outdoor bath. However if you are planning to spend most of your time in the day making the use of the lovely waterfront decking, peace and privacy is not what you will get.
All day while the sun is out, from 9:15am until 4:15, they hold ‘wild swimming’ sessions, which start from a dock just 10m in front of the cabins, and result in people chatting and screeching just meters away from the decking, looking up and you and swimming around directly in front of your decking. The glass barrier on your decking obviously lends no privacy, and the privacy screen provided is completely see through. I was told verbally and in an email there were be only one session in the morning, and one in the afternoon (3:30pm), however at 1pm when i decided to use the outdoor bath, I stripped down only to find myself nude in full view of a group walking onto the dock for a swimming session. I asked reception why there were people swimming there as it was not 3pm and they informed me that there were sessions all day (9am-11:15am and 1pm-4:15pm) and when I said this was not communicated to us, I was just told that they would relay this to management. Again at check out I brought this up and I was just told that they will relay this ‘feedback’. Nobody followed this up. Having spent £2400 for two nights and being misadvertised, I expected more of a response, but I guess they had my money now and just didn’t care.
Very disappointed, was much looking forward to a quiet peaceful stay and the lodges were very beautiful, however I spent most of the day being unable to use the best part of them and was quite upset after the bath incident.
