Weekend with friends for Goodwood Revival

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 weeks agovia mobile
We stayed with a group of friends while attending Goodwood Revival (classic car festival) close by. The hotel has huge charm and character and has benefited from major upgrades in recent years. The staff were lovely and friendly as well as attentive- a special mention to Cedric in the bar and Matthew in the restaurant. The Spa Center (completed in 2019) is nothing short of spectacular. While exploring the hotel I noted that they have an excellent event/conference/wedding area too at a separate end of the hotel.

Sunday lunch 65th Birthday celebration in the Camellia Room with family was stunning. Staff, as always, friendly, attentive and fun.

The pre drinks bar is also to be recommended

Don't go as often as we would like, but never fails to impress.

We will return! Soon

We spent one night at this beautiful hotel on our way home from a very disappointing and overpriced two night stay at The Hand and Flowers in Marlow.
South Lodge is stunning. The staff, service, room, grounds and the Food in The Pass are all faultless.
We felt welcomed and relaxed from the moment we arrived.
We will definitely be back.
Thank you to all.

We had a great time at the South Lodge Hotel, were able to use the spa area for the first time and were thrilled with the indoor and outdoor facilities.
The staff served us in all areas with exceptional joy and enthusiasm, which I have never experienced in any hotel before. Our dinner in the Pass Restaurant was also an extraordinary journey. please keep it that way. We were also served first-class dishes and service in the Camilia restaurant. I wish it didn't end.
I can only recommend the hotel highly, regardless of whether it is for business purposes, leisure, a wedding or an event. Many thanks to every single person in the hotel who worked in their area of responsibility.

This was our second time staying at south lodge and decided to stay at one of the newly built Reeds Lodges, for a romantic two night stay for our anniversary. The lodges are advertised as being tranquil and an escape into nature, with private and relaxing terrace (the words used on their website) with an outdoor bath. However if you are planning to spend most of your time in the day making the use of the lovely waterfront decking, peace and privacy is not what you will get.
All day while the sun is out, from 9:15am until 4:15, they hold ‘wild swimming’ sessions, which start from a dock just 10m in front of the cabins, and result in people chatting and screeching just meters away from the decking, looking up and you and swimming around directly in front of your decking. The glass barrier on your decking obviously lends no privacy, and the privacy screen provided is completely see through. I was told verbally and in an email there were be only one session in the morning, and one in the afternoon (3:30pm), however at 1pm when i decided to use the outdoor bath, I stripped down only to find myself nude in full view of a group walking onto the dock for a swimming session. I asked reception why there were people swimming there as it was not 3pm and they informed me that there were sessions all day (9am-11:15am and 1pm-4:15pm) and when I said this was not communicated to us, I was just told that they would relay this to management. Again at check out I brought this up and I was just told that they will relay this ‘feedback’. Nobody followed this up. Having spent £2400 for two nights and being misadvertised, I expected more of a response, but I guess they had my money now and just didn’t care.
Very disappointed, was much looking forward to a quiet peaceful stay and the lodges were very beautiful, however I spent most of the day being unable to use the best part of them and was quite upset after the bath incident.

Firstly, may I thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at South Lodge, I am delighted to read that you thought your lodge was beautiful. However, I am saddened to see that you found the wild swimming to be disturbing and hindered your experience. As you were advised we do offer 2 sessions per day for our Reeds guests but we also have 2 sessions for our Spa members which run parallel. We have a maximum of 10 guests per session and they are all escorted to the lake by our lifeguard on duty and shown directly to the Jetty to enter the water. The pathway to the jetty is on the other side of the lake and covered by shrubs and trees so no other guests would have been able to see onto your sun deck and there is no access for guests to be walking in front of the Lodges. We have also taken many steps during opening to ensure the area is quiet and private and this involved us blocking multiple access routes to the lake.

With regards to the privacy screen, we have been trialling different options. Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate that the one you had in your lodge was not suitable and we will continue to find the right screen.

I truly hope you will return to South Lodge in the future and allow us the opportunity to rebuild your faith in our hospitality.

Best regards

We just got back from a lovely couples break at South Lodge Hotel and Spa. We really loved the Spa facilities and setting, but unfortunately this was not matched in the hotel. There were a few small in instances at the hotel which could have improved the stay. For example:
- In the room, the plug socket next to my bed did not work, and neither did two jets in the shower.
- When calling guest services from the room, they did not pick up after ringing for a long time. When I did get through, I asked if they could help me source a comb as I had forgotten to pack my hairbrush, however they said they could not help me with my request.
- We had asked for milk with our tea at breakfast, but the restaurant explained that they were dairy free and could not accommodate our request as they could only bring us non dairy alternatives.
These incidents did not ruin the stay, but it was clear that the service offered in the hotel was not the same standard as we have previously experienced in other Exclusive hotels, such as Pennyhill Park.

Charlotte, Firstly may I thank you for reviewing your recent visit to South Lodge. I am pleased to read that overall you had a wonderful stay with us , especially your time spent in the Spa. My sincerest apologies that there were a couple of maintenance issues that hindered your experience, I would like to assure you I am getting these addressed straight away. With regards to Botanica and alternative milks - the whole restaurant is diary free but for future reference we serve all milks in the main hotel. I very much hope you will return to South Lodge in the future and allow us the opportunity to rebuild your faith in our hospitality.

Best regards
