Owner description: Spirit of Tasmania is one of Australia’s most iconic travel experiences, operating sailings across Bass Strait between Melbourne and Devonport on Tasmania’s north coast. Spirit of Tasmania provides travellers with flexibility and convenience when planning a holiday. Our twin ships depart from both ports at 7.30pm and arrive the following morning at 6.00am. During peak season, we also operate day sailings departing from each port at 9.00am and arriving the same day at 6.00pm. On board, you can experience spectacular views, delicious food, great entertainment, relaxation and so much more! Experience the allure of sea travel. It’s fun, relaxing and stress-free. Simply drive on board for a holiday where half the fun is getting there. Embrace the ocean views, stroll the decks and breathe in the sea breeze - there’s nothing quite like it!

We booked a day sailing trip from Devonport to Melbourne. If you don't have a care the transport to Devonport and accommodation could be a problem. We had to book transport to Devonport and accommodation early as we didn't have a car. The cruise has a very strict check-in time and starts the journey at specified time. The cruise itself is pretty big with comfortable couches/chairs for comfortable seating arrangement. There are options to book a recliner chair or cabins, we didn't book any and the couches were pretty comfortable. We were able to access deck 7, 10 and part of deck 9. The deck 7 has a restaurant, gaming arcade, souvenir shop and couple of theaters. Deck 9 has a gaming arcade and deck 10 has a xbox and play area for children. All decks have a bar and the prices of drinks are not too expensive. The restaurant serves decent food and they server pizza in the bar which is not bad as well. The view are pretty good, but the corners of the deck is a n open space which would provide better views. The theaters had a very small screen and movies were played using DVD. If you are traveling as a family or friends don't forget to take a pack of cards or a box of monopoly. The ride may be bit rough in the middle, but not totally inconvenient. Staffs were pretty friendly. All in all it was a very relaxing ride and I wouldn't mind taking a ride one more time.

Our trip on the Spirit of Tasmania was excellent everything was well organised, the food was very good we had a cabin and I slept very well, the sea was kind to us only a bit of rolling but it rocked me to sleep and then stopped and was very smooth. I found the staff very pleasant.

i recently travelled on the spirit of tasmania over to devonport. the rough trip didn't worry me. my dogs were in the kennels . i felt sorry for them as they were in for a rough crossing. the cabin was very clean and more than adequate. the poker machines were from the 60s and boy do they need updating. the cost of the buffet meal was so far over the top . I'm talking really really expensive. i thought i was going to have to sell my dogs to pay for it. let me tell you it really wasn't anything special. buffet choice was ok but really for the price it absolutely wasn't worth it. i believe the shipping line has to get real and offer affordable food.

Deciding on a driving holiday in Tassie gives you the added bonus of a trip across on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry. The getting on and off process wasn’t too bad once you get going. The ferry itself has a good range of options on the day trip we took. We would suggest booking a recliner which we did not consider when booking. Given another opportunity we would get a cabin and do the overnight ferry ride. Food is quite good although pricey and there are activities and movies to make the 10 odd hour crossing go quicker. WiFi is worth the $18 it cost for this trip. Not fast but you can still work or play on the Web. If you are prone to motion or sea sickness make sure you take tablets for it as it can get choppy at times. A very good trip which we would do again and recommend to you if considering

The Spirit of Tasmania team are every well organised and execute to perfection. From the booking process through boarding, dinner and our cabin, everything was spot on.

The cruise across really got interesting once we got through the heads! Our cabin on deck 7 was right on the bow so we got to fully experience a small ship pounding through some pretty big seas. Boom, boom on the hull!

The departure process, like boarding, went like clockwork, well done!
