The quality, view and service was memorable. Great selection of food and presentation. The wide selection of food presented on the buffet were hard to resist and did not disappoint in flavour.

Started with champagne ordered and white wine delivered, understandable error given they were both 42 degrees south and this was rectified quickly. Ordered a WA Chardonnay from the wine list only to find out it was not available, same story for choices two and three. If you have run out of wine change the menu, it was only typed. Entree was Oysters Kilpartick and fair at best, mains were excellent, but I had to stop eating to find someone the seat some people who had been waiting for absent wait staff. After I had nearly got over the wine availability shock, we discovered that there was no menu of scotches or desert wines available and we were advised if we wanted a cognac or anything else not on the drinks menu then we had to go to the bar. Seriously this is not good enough for any restaurant. To top this of one of the waiters being defensive and rude does not help. Change just a couple of things and this would have been a four star experience.

This place was a great find. The views were wonderful and the log fire welcoming. The service was top notch from all staff. I ordered the steak which came out overcooked but was promptly replaced upon request with apologies from the chef and the staff. We would dine here again and would recommend to others.

The Bistro is really a restaurant, one of two in the Tidal Waters Resort on the very shores of St Helens' Georges Bay. I assume it was the Deck Bistro, because a huge deck ran from it to nearly the water's edge. Certainly it had the FEEL of a proper restaurant, and the quality of the food we enjoyed more than qualified it for that appellation. We started with a trio of dips, and, for the two of us, one of those three would have sufficed. The foccaccia was superb and the guacamole and roasted capsicum couldn't be falted (we opted not to have the third- the babaganoush). The main dish we enjoyed was a chicken pie, served with the crunchiest chips you could imagine -absolutely superb! We decided not to have the salad also served with it in order to concentrate on the chicken in the pie. The pie crust was perfection, raised up and overflowing the rather deep dish in which the pie was cooked. The peas and carrots were in the bottom, floating in rather too much of a quite tangy -some would say overspiced - sauce, which needed to be reduced to a sauce instead of being a mass of liquid that didn't aid gracious eating. However the overall effect was really positive and, at $16.00, a steal. The creme caramel ($8.00) was meant to be fresh, and was offerred in lieu of the creme brulee ($12.00) which they'd run out of, but it had the consistency of rubber, and was not at all impressive, compared with the rest of the meal. The Storm Bay Sauvignon Blanc that accompanied our meal was up to the usual Tasmanian/Australian exorbitant mark-up, in this case $38.00 but, when added to the cost of the food, made for a satisfying dining experience. And in the skilled, friendly and utterly professional hands of the sole wait-person (Bianca), and with those views out over the deck and beyond it to Georges Bay and the Harbour, we felt it was good value.
